Thomas E. “Popeye” Jerman Jr., 91, of Dagsboro, Del., passed away and went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, Feb. 22, 2020, while at his home. He was born Feb. 15, 1929, in Milton, Del., son of the late Thomas E. Jerman Sr. and the late Tillie (Megee) Jerman.
Jerman retired in 1987, after more than 30 years of service with the DuPont Company in Seaford, Del. He continued to keep himself busy after “retirement,” doing almost any type of handyman repair for his friends and family.
Jerman was a lifetime member of the Millville (Del.) Volunteer Fire Company, a member of Delaware Lodge No. 37 AF &AM in Dagsboro, Del., and a former member of Doric Lodge No. 30 AF &AM in Millville. He enjoyed hunting, surf-fishing and going camping down in Florida. Above all else, he enjoyed talking to people and reading his Bible.
In addition to his parents and eight siblings, Jerman was preceded in death by his first wife, Ida May Jerman, in 1989; a stepdaughter, Brenda Lee Messick and her husband, Jacob; and a step-grandson, Gregory Morris. He is survived by his wife of 28 years, Elsie Marie Jerman; a son, Thomas E. Jerman III and his wife, Maria, of Seaford; a daughter, Geri Jerman of Bridgeport, W.Va.; two granddaughters, Jessica Flesher and her husband, Jed, of Fairmont, W.Va., and Lindsey Jerman of Seaford; two great-grandchildren, Keegan and Grayson Jerman; a sister, Elsie Bounds of Riverside, Calif.; three stepchildren, Peggy Morris and her husband, Wayne, of Millsboro, Del., Jerry Lathbury and his wife, Pat, of Frankford, Del., and Dave Lathbury and his wife, Donna, of Dagsboro, Del.; four step-grandchildren, Dean Morris and his wife, Grace, of Georgetown, Del., Dawn Huff and her husband, J.C., of Martinsburg, W.Va., Dana Lathbury of Dagsboro, and Stacey Grez and her husband, Nick, of Long Neck, Del.; four step-great-grandchildren; and three step-great-great grandsons.
A visitation will begin at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 29, 2020, followed by a Masonic service at noon, then followed by a funeral service, all at Melson Funeral Services, 43 Thatcher Street, Frankford, Del. Interment will follow at Redmen Memorial Cemetery in Dagsboro, Del.
