Shirley L. Morganstern, 84, of Laurel, Del., formerly of Millville, Del., passed away and went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, March 12, 2020, while surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Camp Barnes, Del., on Jan. 10, 1936, daughter of the late Elijah Shockley and the late Margaret (Evans) Rogers.

Morganstern was a graduate of Lord Baltimore High School, in the Class of 1953. She had worked as a cashier for Hocker’s Super Center in Clarksville, Del., for more than 20 years. She also worked for the Delaware Cigarette & Tobacco Outlet in Fenwick Island, Del., for several years, before retiring in 2010.

She will be remembered as the sweetest, loving and faithful mother that anyone could ever want. She also was very opinionated, bossy and outspoken, so everyone always knew where she stood on any issue. Morganstern will also be remembered for her ornery personality and her love of flirting with any man, as she always said, “Men never get enough compliments.”

In addition to her parents, Morganstern was preceded in death by her husband, Clifton David Morganstern, in 2007, and a grandson, Shawn Stryker. She is survived by four children, Diane Hudak of Laurel, Wanda Whitman of Laurel, Lenny Whitman of Dagsboro, Del., and John Morganstern of Delaware City, Del.; a stepdaughter, Bonnie Cross and her husband, Ernie, of Petersburg, N.Y.; six grandchildren, Barbara Burch, John Morganstern Jr., Braydee Whitman, Kyle Morganstern, Corrin Morganstern and Caden Whitman; three great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

A funeral service was scheduled for March 17, 2020, at Melson Funeral Services, Ocean View, Del. Interment will be held privately at Millville Cemetery.
