More than $12,000 was raised for Southern Sussex Rotary’s seventh annual Flags for Heroes, the culmination of months of fundraising leading up to Memorial Day. In all, 133 locally sponsored heroes were named by state Rep. Ron Gray (R-38th) and Delaware State Treasurer Colleen Davis during the “Presentation of Heroes.”

During the event at Lord Baltimore Elementary School on Memorial Day on Monday, May 31, attendees also heard patriotic music from the Indian River High School Brass Ensemble, under the direction of Jillian Bacon, and a speech by special guest Lt. Col. John Fisher. The ceremony was also supported by Cub Scout Pack 280 and Boy Scout Troop 281.

Southern Sussex Rotary will raise flags again for the 20th anniversary of 9/11.
