Throughout Aug. 7’s Game Six of the Senior League Softball World Series against District III (Seaford, Del.) and Southern representative (Morristown, Tenn.), announcer Roy Lamberton made it clear that there was to be no flash photography or the game would be postponed.

After a couple stern reminders and five extra base run-producing hits by District III, the game was postponed — but not because of what any photographer did. Instead it was because a strong, fast-moving storm system was within a handful of miles from Roxanna’s Pyle Center.

Three meager outs separated District III from a fifth-inning 13-0 mercy-rule victory over the South. But instead of closing out the session, the game was set to be completed the following morning.

In Monday night’s play, District III tagged South starting pitcher India Ellison for seven runs on three hits, two errors and one past pitch, with two outs in the bottom of the second inning, before adding another six runs over the next three innings.

Starting pitcher Kelsey Riggleman had struck out six over four innings pitched and held a no-hitter before South’s relief pitcher singled into left field. Riggleman also led the team with two extra base hits; a stand-up RBI double and a stand-up RBI triple.

District III left fielder added a bases-clearing stand-up double in the top of the fourth to give her team an 11-0 lead. Pinch hitter Alexis Short delivered a two-out RBI triple two batters later and center fielder Kari Bergh plated Riggleman for District III’s final score before the cessation of the game.
