The Lady Indians brought impressive play to the hardwood floor at Lake Forest last Friday, but they were unable keep up the pace in their second game of the week, falling to Seaford at home, 58-39, on Tuesday night.

Last Friday’s game saw a different Lady Indians team than the one that showed up Tuesday. On Feb. 1, they move the ball and captured crucial points as they ran over the Spartans, 67-47. That win came as a satisfying sigh of relief as the Lady Indians had been unable to establish their footing in the win column since their Dec. 13 encounter against Woodbridge.

But Seaford took an early lead in Tuesday’s game, establishing a 31-18 lead by halftime. Poor execution and lost rebounds accounted for IR’s failed attempts to come back.

“Our shots weren’t falling,” said Lady Indians head coach Summer Chorman, “and when that happens, we get frustrated. We played an excellent game against LF, and I was hoping to bring that momentum against Seaford. Even though we lost, we played Seaford a lot better than earlier this season.”

Sinking stamina was another factor, Chorman noted.

“We’re not the biggest recovery team,” she said, “so when they start running us back and forth like a ping-pong ball, we get tired easily. It’s hard when you only have eight girls to rotate your lineup with.”

Chorman said she hoped their game against Woodbridge on Thursday, Feb. 7, (after Coastal Point deadline) would prove as favorable for the Lady Indians as the teams’ last meeting.

“Hopefully,” said Chorman, “we can get our confidence back. There will be competition, but I think it will be a more attainable game. We’d like to end the season on a good note.”

Marnisha Mitchell led the Lady Indians on Tuesday with 10 points, while Lizzy Handy and Rayc Rayne each contributed eight. Brandi Buchanan and Michelle Givans each tallied six points for the Lady Indians.

Ambré Burbage proved instrumental for the Lady Jays on Tuesday, accounting for 26 of the team’s 58 points. Dee Farlow scored 12, while Samantha Savage captured eight.

The Lady Indians will finish off their season with home games next weekend, as they face Laurel on Friday, Feb. 15, at 6 p.m., and on Saturday, Feb. 16, go up against Sussex Central. Their final game of the season is set for Tuesday, Feb. 19, at Delmar, at 7:15 p.m.
