BREAKING NEWS - Olmstead gets second term as mayor
Olmstead re-elected by slim margin
Amid a statewide shift to new municipal absentee balloting procedures and in the wake of a 2006 election noted for the rejection of dozens of absentee ballots, absentee votes were the deciding factor in Sept. 8’s Bethany Beach Town Council Elections. With a margin of just seven votes, current Mayor Carol Olmstead was re-elected to the Bethany council, narrowly trailed in the voting by longtime resident and election challenger Margaret Bogan Young.

Frankford’s new water plant is in transition and on target for its final phase of development, officials reported at their Sept. 10 town council meeting. The project is earmarked for completion by January of 2008.
Beebe readies for Clarksville construction
A location along Route 26 in Clarksville will serve as home for Beebe Medical Foundation’s next big move. With the recent purchases of two adjacent properties, Beebe Medical Center plans to construct their South Coastal Health Campus — a center geared to accommodate medical and health needs in Millville, Ocean View, Dagsboro, Selbyville, and surrounding communities.
The Agenda

Bethany Beach’s financial practices got yet another clean report recently with the completion of the town’s annual audit by Trace, Geary & Myers LLC (TGM).
Beach Cottage to host art show
The Beach Cottage, on Route 26 in Ocean View, will be once again holding its annual outdoor art show, this Saturday, Sept.15, from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m., with a rain date on Sunday with the same hours.
Water progress to impact traffic
The Ocean View Public Water System Project is moving ahead steadily, and area residents, employees and visitors will soon be noticing that progress as construction makes its way across some major roadways. The project, now 234 days into the one-year contract, will literally be moving across the town’s main roads within the next few months.
Selbyville doubles water impact fee
Selbyville is one of the focuses of recent growth in Sussex County, and town officials moved Monday night to ensure that their infrastructure can keep up with that growth by more than doubling the town’s water service impact fee.
County gives input on DelDOT plan
Attendance was sparse at a Sept. 6 workshop held by the Delaware Department of Transportation at Delaware Tech’s Georgetown campus. Most of the citizens who attended had very particular bones to pick with the state’s transportation Secretary, Carolann Wicks. And most of them had come from the Lincoln, Milford and Seaford areas, taking issue with DelDOT’s plans for individual intersections in those areas.
Jacobsen uses expertise and experience to benefit Bethany
With news that beach replenishment will be starting soon, many in the area who hadn’t before have now heard the name of Julia Jacobsen — a long-familiar figure in Bethany Beach politics and community life, and an outspoken supporter for beach nourishment.

The Indian River volleyball team was unable to open up their season on a high note on Tuesday as they fell short, 0-3, against Delmarva Christian Academy. Head coach Jess Dodd was forced to make some last-minute changes following the unexpected dismissal of one of his starters.
Coaches dissatisfied with new conference structure
This past year, the powers that be amended the structure of the middle school athletic programs. Instead of one big conference, they’ve split them into northern and southern — similar to the Henlopen Conference but with one stipulation: they can’t play outside their division.
