Design committee approves Blue Surf replacement plans
Since 1959, the Blue Surf motel has stood on the Bethany Beach Boardwalk. And for 41 years, the same family has owned and operated the powder blue motel recognizable by anyone who has lived or visited the coastal Delaware resort.
County council approves debates impact fees for schools
In Kent County, where failed school district referendums have almost become the norm recently, exploring other possible revenue sources was inevitable. Impact fees on developments, which are said to stress area schools, have become a viable option even prompting a state code change last year. While Sussex County schools by most accounts do not have the same problem with getting referendums approved, impact fees could still help, local leaders have pointed out.
Kennel owner charged for not cremating horse
On Oct. 28, Jim and Peggy Parkinson of Millsboro were forced to make a difficult decision. Because of a case of melanoma that had sickened their 32-year-old Arabian mare D-Dyn for weeks, they had the champion horse put down to escape further pain.
Super Giant selling generic drugs for $3.99

Castle hopes to use next two years wisely
I view the 110th Congress as an opportunity for much needed change and progress on key issues nationally and on important projects back here in Delaware. I am hopeful we can put the partisan attacks of the 2006 Elections behind us and get back to governing in a civil and responsible manner.
Radio station focuses on Sussex County
Public Radio Delmarva, based out of Salisbury University campus in Salisbury, Md., stretches throughout most of the Delmarva Peninsula, bringing soothing classical tunes and intriguing news and talk to the airwaves. The station, coming up on their 20th year anniversary, is a veteran in the public communication business, but the past two years have shown an overwhelming support from the community and local businesses.

Beebe opens Millville walk-in center
Locals who get sick or suffer a minor injury over the weekend now have somewhere to go. Starting Nov. 3, the Beebe Weekend Walk-In Medical Center in Millville is now open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday’s and Saturday’s and from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sundays to deal with such problems. Appointments to be treated in the walk-in center are not necessary and most major insurance plans are accepted, according to a Beebe release sent early this month.
Smaller Wilgus store opens six months after fire
Almost exactly six months after a fire destroyed Wilgus Cleaners’ nearly 70-year-old Selbyville plant, Jeff Wilgus has opened a dry cleaning store in Selbyville. Sitting in the new store across from Arby’s on Route 113 Monday, Wilgus, a Selbyville native and resident whose grandfather started the cleaning business in Selbyville in 1939, said the Wilgus name will attract long-time customers.

Recovering feature artist returns home next week
Most artists in the South Eastern Delaware Art Studio Tour (SEDAST) are finding themselves flustered and anxious as the Nov. 24-25 dates for this year’s tour creep closer. For Ralph Semsker, however, the pace has taken an inopportune turn, as a failed liver transplant sent him to Hahnemann University Hospital in Philadelphia in the beginning of November.

Rollin' in
The Indian River Indians varsity football team’s 45-13 regular season finale win over the Smyrna Eagles earned them a first-round home game in the Division II State football tournament against the Concord Raiders (8-2, 6-0 Blue Hen Conference) on Nov. 17.
