Dagsboro police officer resigns
By Laura Ford
Staff Reporter
Officer Larry Harris formally resigned from the Dagsboro Police Department on Saturday, Sept. 30, after seven and a half years of service. Harris said he could not comment on why he left, but said he was leaving a great town and place to work. “I love the people,” he said.
“It’s like Mayberry,” Harris added. “Everybody knows everybody.”
There was speculation that the petition against Dagsboro police commissioner Herb Disharoon brought up at the town meeting last Monday, Sept. 25, related to Harris’ decision to step down. But Harris said that he had been offered a better opportunity and that, under the circumstances, it was in his best interest.
Of the petition, Disharoon said, “There were too many misunderstandings. They should have had their facts straight to start with.” To Harris, Disharoon said he wished him “the best.”
Harris also said that he appreciates the people working for the town of Dagsboro. He said, “I should have communicated more with them. The town would have been more than willing to communicate.”
He said he wished to thank the town, the people, the fire department and Chief Dudley for their trust and support.
“It was worth it,” he said.
Harris will be joining the police force in the town of Selbyville.
