Elizabeth A. Hopkins, 74
Elizabeth A. Hopkins, 74, of Millsboro, Del., died Wednesday, Sept. 20, 2006, at home.
Hopkins retired from Campbell Soup. She was a member of the Jehovah’s Witness Church in Dagsboro, Del. She enjoyed cooking, flowers, shopping and traveling. She was a loving mother, grandmother sister and friend. “She was one of God’s gifts to this world.”
She is survived by her children, Sam Dennis and wife Carol; Kevin Dennis and wife Alvanna; Deborah Cottman and husband Clifford; Casandra Dixon; Michael Dennis and wife Alice; Teresa Hopkins; Dana Hopkins and wife Nina; Tony Hopkins; brothers and sisters Dawson Johnson, Wesley Johnson, Freddie Johnson, Howard Dennis, Robert Johnson, Alvaida Dennis, Lola Dennis, Esther Hunt, Catricia Johnson and Stephanie Johnson; 51 grandchildren, 82 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Alton Hopkins, in 1996, and a son, Eltan Dennis.
Funeral services were scheduled for Monday, Sept. 25, 2006 at Dickerson Chapel AME Church, Millsboro, Del.
Mary C. Presley, 93
Mary C. Presley, 93, of Selbyville, Del., died Saturday, Sept. 23, 2006, at home.
Presley had lived in the area since 2001, coming from LaVale, Md. She was a member of the LaVale Baptist Church and Victory Baptist Church in Selbyville. She and her husband were devoted to helping the needy and helping people in times of need.
She is survived by her children, Floyd Presley Jr. and wife Sharon, and Henry Presley; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Floyd Presley, in 1999; they were married 66 years; a son, James Presley, in 1991, and a brother, Richard Ellington.
Funeral services were scheduled for Wednesday, Sept. 27, 2006, at Watson Funeral Home.
James Clarence Hilyard Jr., 78
James Clarence Hilyard Jr., 78, of Georgetown, Del., died Thursday, Sept. 21, 2006, at Seaford Center, Seaford.
Hilyard was a World War II Army veteran and also served as an Allied guard at the Nuremburg War Crimes Trial. He had been a plumber and pipe fitter, and welder for the Local 690 pipe fitters union.
He is survived by his wife of 24 years, Deborah Ryan Hilyard; a son, James C. Hilyard III; sisters Kathryn Bradley and Ann Nancy Laird. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Jack Hilyard; a son, Gerald Hilyard; and sisters Veronica, Margarite, Marion and Regina.
A memorial service was scheduled for Wednesday, Sept. 27, 2006, at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Millsboro, with internment at Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to the American Stroke Association, Southeastern PA Region, Memorial Processing Center, 777 Penn Ct. Blvd., Pittsburgh, PA 15235-5927.
Leonard A. Jaskiewicz, 79
Leonard A. Jaskiewicz, 79, of Dagsboro, formerly of Arlington, Va., died Sept. 20, 2006, at home.
Jaskiewicz was a founding partner of the law firm Grove, Jaskiewicz and Cobert, and a former partner of Dow, Lohnes and Albertson. Jaskiewicz lived in Arlington, Va., from 1950 to 1992, when he retired and moved to Delaware. He was born in Norwich, Conn., and served in the U.S. Army from 1946 to 1947, and in the U.S. Army Reserves from 1950 to 1962, resigning with the rank of major. He graduated from the University of Connecticut and received a master’s degree from the Maxwell School, Syracuse University and a juris doctor degree from the George Washington University Law School.
Jaskiewicz worked at the U.S. Navy Department from 1950 to 1953. He started his law firm in 1964, specializing in transportation and corporate law. He was a member of Washington Golf and County Club, Arlington, Va., and a member of Cripple Creek Golf and Country Club near Bethany Beach, Del., where he served as president in 2003. He was an avid golfer and made three holes-in-one.
He is by survived by three children, Jon M. Jaskiewicz, Barbara J. Bouchard and Virginia R. Rose; nine grandchildren: Jennifer, Benjamin, Melissa, Kathryn, Allison, Ellen, Phillip, Michael and Annalee. He is also survived by a brother, Edmund Jaskiewicz, and a companion, Charlotte Boeck. His wife, Ruth, predeceased him in 2003.
Funeral services will be private.

John Keith Axel, 67
John Keith Axel, 67, of Ocean View, Del, died Friday, Sept. 22, 2006.
Axel was born in Moline, Ill., on Oct. 10, 1938, to the late Charles and Charlotte (Hoff) Axel. He was self-employed in advertising.
He is survived by his loving wife, Judith (Louden) Axel; two daughters, Cheri Lizzio and her husband, Stephen, and Juli Solack and her husband, George; two sisters, Carol Larsen and Joan Seefeldt; five grandchildren: Jenny Lizzio, Katie Lizzio, Tom Lizzio, Carolyn Solack and Andrew Solack. He was preceded in death by his parents.
A memorial service was scheduled for Tuesday, Sept. 26, 2006, at the Peninsula Community Church, Selbyville.
Joseph Wilson Caleb, 79
Joseph William Caleb, 79, of Selbyville, Del., formerly of Baltimore, Md., died Friday, Sept. 15, 2006, at Peninsula Regional Medical Center, Salisbury, Md.
Caleb had been a shipping-and-receiving clerk for the Catalyst Research Company for many years. He was a member of the Ocean City Elks and the Moose Lodge #2542.
He is survived by his wife, Agnes G. Caleb; a son, Joseph E. Caleb; a brother, Harry D. Caleb and his wife, Heather; a sister, Rebecca May and her husband, John; and three grandchildren, Melody Mitchell, David Caleb and Joe Caleb.
A memorial service was scheduled for Sept. 30, at 11 a.m. at Hastings Funeral Home in Selbyville.
