Ruth Ann Kowalski, 59

Ruth Ann Kowalski, 59 of Jacksonville, Fla., died Monday, May 22, 2006, at home.

She is survived by her mother, Hazel Toomey Spicer; husband, Michael Kowalski; brothers and sisters Donald Spicer, Charles Spicer, Violet Rust and Edward Spicer; five children, Cassandra Webb, Charles Toomey Jr., Crystal Lewis, William Toomey and James Toomey Sr.; 11 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. She also is survived by a lifelong friend Charles Toomey Sr., and lots of loving friends and extended family. She was preceded in death by her father, William Luster Spicer.

Funeral services were scheduled for Tuesday, May 30, at noon at Watson Funeral Home, 211 Washington St., Millsboro, with internment at Millsboro Cemetery, Millsboro.

Thomas M. Andes, 86

Thomas M. Andes, 86 of Millsboro, formerly of East Northport Long Island, N.Y., died on Friday, May 26, 2006 at Green Valley Terrace Nursing Home. He retired as a foreman from the Paper Cup Co. in New York.

He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the United States Army as a medical technician.

He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Charmaine Andes; a son, Thomas M. Andes Jr; two daughters, Adrienne R. Wunder and Diane Eliane; a sister, Gertrude McAuley; nine grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Stephen R. Andes, in 1998.

A memorial mass was scheduled for 11 a.m. on Friday, June 2, at Mary Mother of Peace Catholic Church, Route 24 in Oak Orchard. Burial will be held privately at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Millsboro.

Alice M. Grabey, 79

Alice M. Grabey, 79, of Millsboro, formerly of Schuylkill Haven, Pa., died on Friday, May 26, 2006, at home. She was a homemaker.

She was a member of the Long Neck United Methodist Church in Millsboro, the Unity Chapter 16 Order of Eastern Star in Lewes and the American Legion Auxiliary Post 28 of Millsboro, and she was a board member of AARP chapter in Long Neck.

She is survived by her loving husband of 55 years, Charles W. Grabey; a daughter, Phyllis Koch and husband Allen C.; a brother, James Brown; a granddaughter, Tanya Hawkins, and her husband Sean. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Harriett Rockawicz in 1994 and Anna Brown in 2005.

Funeral services were scheduled for Tuesday, May 30, at the Long Neck Chapel of Melson Funeral Services, Long Neck Rd., Millsboro, with internment at 2 p.m. on Thursday, June 1, at Fort Indiantown Gap National Cemetery in Annville, Pa.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions in Alice’s name to Delaware Hospice Southern Division, 20167 Office Circle, Georgetown, DE 19947.

Edward C. Hensler, 69

Edward C. Hensler, 69, of Dagsboro, formerly of Baltimore, Md., died on Saturday, May 27, 2006 at home. He was a retired printer from Baltimore’s The Sun newspaper, where he was employed for 38 years. Hensler was a member of the Moose Lodge in Glen Burnie.

He is survived by his loving wife of 19 years, Doris A. (Megary) Hensler; a son, Chuck Hensler; two daughters, Sherry Cromwell and Chris Spyridakos; two sisters, Harriett Scott and Carolynn Rizzo; six grandchildren, Jesse, Tina, Holly, Danielle, Alex and Adam; and two step-children, Marc Cooke and Kim Cooke. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Robert Hensler.

Funeral services were scheduled for May 30 at the Bethany Chapel of Melson Funeral Services, West Ave., Ocean View. Interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to the American Cancer Society — Sussex Chapter, P.O. Box 163, Salisbury, MD 21805.

Merritt W. Whitney, 60

Merritt W. Whitney, 60, of Roxana, died Tuesday, May 23, 2006, at Beebe Medical Center, Lewes. He was a retired mason working for Whaley Masonry Construction.

He was a member of Faith Hope & Love Church of Milford.

He is survived by his daughter, Pamela Bull; sisters, Annie Williams, Rosemarie Woodlyn, Henrietta Hayes and Bessie Whitney; and two grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Sherman, Ollie and Jackie.

A memorial service was scheduled for Saturday, June 3, at 1 p.m. at Watson Funeral Home, 211 Washington St., Millsboro, with internment at Antioch Cemetery, Frankford.

Julia W. Gogarty, 73

Julia “Jule” Wierzbowski Gogarty, 73, of Millsboro and formerly of Wilmington, died Monday, May 29, 2006, at Beebe Medical Center in Lewes. She was a retired unit secretary at Beebe Medical Center in Lewes and an active member of Mary Mother of Peace Catholic Church near Oak Orchard.

She is survived by her loving husband of 11 years, Richard J. Gogarty; three sons, Leon F. Wierzbowski, Richard Joseph Gogarty and his wife, Donna, and Joseph Gogarty and his wife, Karen; two daughters, Julie Ann Barnett and Jeanne Denise Cloonan-Cortez; a brother, John Healy; seven grandchildren, Richard Gogarty, Brian Gogarty, Christopher Gogarty, Kristen Gogarty, Kevin Gogarty, Kenneth Gogarty and Mac Barnett. She was predeceased by her first husband, Leon A. Wierzbowski, in 1980.

A Mass of Christian Burial was scheduled for Thursday, June 1, at 11 a.m. at Mary Mother of Peace Catholic Church, Rt. 24, Millsboro. A graveside service was scheduled for Greenfield Cemetery, Hempstead, Long Island, N.Y., on Friday, June 2, at 1 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the Mary Mother of Peace Catholic Church, 202 Edward St., Georgetown, DE 19947.
