Marcia K. Herman-Crossland, 53

Marcia K. Herman-Crossland, 53, died at home on Sunday, May 14, 2006.

She was a registered nurse for the Delaware State Division of Long Term Care Residents Protection.

She was a very active member of the Long Neck United Methodist Church, where she was a chairperson on the Finance Committee. She enjoyed gardening, music, visits to the beach and reading.

She is survived by her husband James Henry Crossland Jr.; a daughter, Kelly Lynne Grimshaw; a son, Timothy Mark Herman; a sister, Beth A. Lucabaugh; and two stepsons, James Crossland III and Aaron Crossland.

Funeral services were scheduled for May 20, at the Long Neck United Methodist Church, Long Neck Rd., Millsboro, and a graveside service was scheduled for May 22, at Gracelawn Memorial Park, 2220 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle, DE.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions in Marcia Herman-Crossland’s name to the Long Neck UMC Building Fund, 32051 Long Neck Rd., Millsboro, DE 19966; American Diabetes Assoc., 110 S. French St., Wilmington, DE 19805; or the American Cancer Society P.O. Box 163, Salisbury, MD 21805.

Jeffrey G. Stewart, 54

Jeffrey G. Stewart, 54, of Laurel, died Thursday, May 18, 2006, at home.

He had been a trucking owner/operator for many years. He was a lifetime member of the DAV. Also, he was the first chairman of the Home of the Brave and one of the original organizers.

He is survived by his wife of 24 years, Linda K. Stewart; his mother, Grace Stewart; two sons, Glenn Stewart and wife Rhonda, and Jeffrey Stewart II and Donna; one daughter, Kelly Brzezicki and husband Mike; three step-children, Lisa Coleman and husband Darren, Deanna McDuffie, and John Beattie and wife Betty; brother-in-law, George Knorr and wife Donna; sister-in-law, Sherry Rogers and husband Steve; sisters, Karen Eddy, Dale Stewart, and Debbie Stewart.

Funeral services were scheduled for May 24, at Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Millsboro, with internment at Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Millsboro, Delaware.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggest contributions be made to help offset medical and funeral expenses; c/o Watson Funeral Home, PO Box 125, Millsboro, Delaware 19966.

Nathan Fred Bartram, 74

Nathan Fred Bartram, 74, of Fenwick Island, died at home on Thursday, May 18, 2006.

He had been an oil-field worker for many years.

He is survived by two daughters, Diana L. Phipps and Donna S. Sparks; two brothers, Lawrence M. Bartram and Larry M. Bartram; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two sons, Nathan F. Bartram Jr. and Bruce E. Bartram.

Services and burial are scheduled to be private.

James E. Thornton, 63

James E. Thornton, 63, of Lewes, died at Harbor Health Care on Friday, May 19, 2006.

He was a past member of the BPOE Elks of Lewes. He was also a member of the Delaware City Vietnam Veterans of America, and Amvets. He earned the Overseas Bar, Good Conduct Medal and the Vietnam Service Medal.

He is survived by one daughter, Lorie Frease and husband Sean; one son, James T. Thornton; and one sister, Betty A. Peters and husband James.

Funeral services were scheduled for May at Watson Funeral Home 211 Washington St. Millsboro, with internment at Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Millsboro, Delaware.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made to the National Rheumatoid Arthritis Foundation, 9505 Reisterstown Rd. Owings Mills, MD 21117.

Joseph F. “Pop Pop” Carre, 98

Joseph F. “Pop Pop” Carre, 98, of Wilmington, formerly of Millsboro, died on May 22, 2006.

He grew up along the Brandywine River, where he held various jobs such as working for Mrs. Crownshield as a gardener, a welder in the shipyard during World War II, and he also was a carpenter. He enjoyed fishing, nature and spending time with his family.

He is survived by a son, Robert J. Carre; a daughter, Marianne Arcidiacono; a grandson, Scott Carre and wife Michelle; five granddaughters, Julia Link and husband Ed, Michelle Carre, Angel Musselman and husband Dan, Andrea Twardus and husband Andy, and Alicia Arcidiacono; two great-grandsons, Matt and Samuel; seven great-granddaughters, Corrine, Taylor, Katlyn, Nicole, Jessica, Carre and Elizabeth. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Julia A. Carre, in 1995. Funeral services were scheduled for May 25, at the Long Neck Chapel of Melson Funeral Services, Long Neck Rd., Millsboro, with interment at Asbury Methodist Church Cemetery, Rt. 9, Georgetown, DE.
