Barbara H. Johnson, 75
Barbara H. Johnson, 75, of Millsboro, died on Monday, May 15, 2006 at Nanticoke Memorial Hospital, Seaford. She loved to cook, shop, paint and do yard work.
She is survived by her companion of 43 years, Raymond C. Moore; three sons, Leon S., Irvin M. Johnson, Raymond C. Johnson; one daughter, Teresa H. Johnson; three sisters, Blonnie McCall, Rochella Nock, Vivian Johnson; three brothers, Crawford Johnson, Elson Johnson, Harlin Johnson; six grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Funeral services were scheduled for Friday, May 19, at 1 p.m. at Watson Funeral Home, 211 Washington St., Millsboro, where friends may call one hour prior, with internment at Harmony Cemetery, Millsboro.
Dorothy W. Messick, 88
Dorothy W. Messick, 88, of Millsboro died on Tuesday, May 9, in Green Valley Terrace Nursing Home in Millsboro. She worked for NCR before becoming a foster grandparent for the state of Delaware.
She was a member of Conley’s United Methodist Church in Angola. She loved being around her family, and gardening.
She is survived by two sons, Edward B. Messick, Richard D. Messick, A. Theodore; two daughters, Shirley M. Pettit and Patricia Messick Absher; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband, Clifford U. Messick Sr. in 1956 and a son Clifford “Sonny” Messick Jr. in 2003.
A funeral service was scheduled for Saturday, May 13, at the Long Neck Chapel of Melson Funeral Services, Long Neck Rd., Millsboro, where friends and family could call after noon with interment at Conley’s Cemetery.

Joseph D. Gipe, 76
Joseph D. Gipe, 76, of Millsboro, formerly of Delaware County, Pa., died on Saturday, May 13, 2006, at Beebe Medical Center in Lewes. He was an automobile mechanic.
Gipe was a Korean War veteran, serving in the U.S. Navy. He was a member of Mary Mother of Peace Catholic Church and the American Legion Post 28.
He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Mafalda F. Gipe; a son, Joseph D. Gipe Jr.; three grandchildren, Brian Gipe, Erin Harris and Austin Gipe; and a great grandchild, Dailyn Harris.
A Memorial Mass was scheduled for Friday, May 19, at 11 a.m. at Mary Mother of Peace Catholic Church, Rt. 24 in Millsboro. A viewing will be held on Thursday evening, May 18, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Long Neck Chapel of Melson Funeral Services, Long Neck Rd., Millsboro with interment at Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Millsboro.
Leroy E. Mitchell Jr., 78
Leroy E. Mitchell, 78, of Georgetown, died on Sunday, May 14, 2006, at Milford Memorial Hospital, Milford.
He enjoyed bowling, and watching wrestling and NASCAR.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Pauline C. “Lewis” Mitchell; four sons: Leroy E. III, Wayne R., Whitlaw, Donald J.; four daughters; Iris Norman, Corinne R. Edge, Gail M. Drummond, Tabhne Jones; one brother, Billy R. Mitchell; one sister, Mabel M. Downs; 14 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were scheduled for May 18 at Watson Funeral Home, 211 Washington St. Millsboro, with internment at Woodlawn Memorial Cemetery, Millsboro, Delaware.
Eva Virginia Chandler, 85
Eva Virginia Chandler, 85, of Dagsboro, died on Sunday May 14, 2006, at Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Salisbury. She was a homemaker who enjoyed cooking and baking.
Chandler was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church in Dagsboro and a member of the Women’s Society of Christian Service.
She is survived by a son William B. Chandler III and; a daughter Patricia C. Adams; three grandchildren, Amy Adams, Will Chandler and Melody Chandler. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband of 56 years, William B. Chandler Jr., in 1997 and a brother Wilson O. “Sonny” McCabe Jr.
Funeral services were scheduled for Thursday, May 18, at noon at the Bethel United Methodist Church, Clayton Street, Dagsboro, with interment in Prince George’s Cemetery in Dagsboro.

Homer A. McMahon, 78
Homer A. McMahon, 78, of Millsboro died on Friday, May 12, 2006, at Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Salisbury, Md. He was a photographer.
McMahon was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army. He was also a member of the American Legion Post 28 in Millsboro and the Community Church of Oak Orchard.
McMahon is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Shirley L. (Beavers) McMahon; one son, Clifton McMahon; three daughters, Cheryl Holliday, Susan McMahon and Teresa Gumpher; eight grandchildren, Bobbie Hines, Amber and Thomas Holliday, Clifton and Tammy McMahon, Joshua McMahon, Alexis and Joey Gumpher and one great-grandchild, Emily Hines. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sons, Wayne and Keith McMahon.
Funeral services were scheduled for May 18 at the Community Church of Oak Orchard, Oak Orchard Rd., Millsboro with interment at Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Millsboro.

Robert Ezra Williams, 86
Robert Ezra Williams, 86, of Rehoboth Beach, died on Thursday, May 11, 2006, at Brandywine Assisted Living.
He retired from the U.S. Department of Agriculture as a conservationist in 1975.
His hobbies and activities were family, reading, fishing, work as president of ARSCSE, and his church, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He was a Marine Corps veteran.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Lillian Nielson Williams; one son, David Larry Williams; two daughters: Debra Cooper, Linda Warner; one sister, Bonnie Dixon; and 10 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Robert James Williams; four brothers: Lyle, Steve, Ralph and Fred Williams; two sisters, Lucille Williams, and Jan Hoffman.
Funeral services were scheduled for May 15 at Watson Funeral Home, 211 Washington St., Millsboro, with internment at Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Millsboro.
Charles N. Hyatt, 76
Charles N. Hyatt, 76, of Ocean View, formerly of Lanham, Md., died Tuesday, May 16, 2006 at Atlantic General Hospital, Berlin, Md.
He was a retired salesman with the American Greetings Company.
He was a Navy veteran of the Korean War and a member of St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Bethany Beach. He was also a member of the Fenwick Island Lions Club, the Ocean City Elks Club, the Knights of Columbus and the Delmarva Irish American Club.
He is survived by his wife, Anita O. Hyatt; three sons, Charles V. Hyatt, James A. Hyatt, and Richard M. Hyatt; one daughter, Karen A. Kennison; 13 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Dorothy A. Hyatt, in 1994 and a son, Lawrence E. Hyatt, in 1999.
A Mass of Christian burial was scheduled for Friday, May 19, at 11 a.m. with internment at Mariner’s Bethel Cemetery, Ocean View. Friends may call Thursday, May 18, from 6 to 8 p.m., at Hastings Funeral Home, Selbyville.
