Fenwick Island Mayor Peter Frederick recently offered a heads-up to folks just rolling into town the dredging company preparing to pump up Fenwick beaches was scheduled to start hauling beach replenishment gear back and forth on Bayard Street over the next few days.

Newly selected auditing firm Trice, Geary & Meyers reported a “clean opinion” at the annual Audit Committee meeting Tuesday, Aug. 2.
Task force seeks roadwork funding
There’s been a fair bit of finger-pointing since the Delaware Department of Transportation (DelDOT) suddenly shelved $283 million in road projects last month. Legislators have blamed DelDOT for drawing down the Transportation Enhancement Fund, historically intended to cover capital construction projects, but increasingly used to fund operating budgets.

Fenwick gets the music in them
A guitarist, dressed modestly in a t-shirt and dungarees, stands in front of A Novel Idea, a book retailer in the Village of Fenwick shopping center, as he starts strumming familiar tunes. Shoppers and business owners quickly converge on the smooth sounds, idling with their backs against storefronts or their backsides on chairs and benches. The audience resembles a renewable energy source new onlookers shuffle in as others return to browsing.
Year-old gardeners club bearing fruit
The fledgling Gardeners by the Sea gardening club has yet to celebrate its first anniversary (Sept. 9), but the membership is getting full, and the club has already signed on to help out a local charity.

District 3 has ups, downs, in tourney
District 3 lost a game they had a chance to win. Last Sunday, Aug. 7 and day one of the Senior League Softball World Series, they lost to USA East (Punxsutawney, Penn.) 3-2.
Legion team runs into hot Steevers squad
Post 28 appeared primed and ready to challenge for the Delaware American Legion State Tournament title following consecutive slaughter victories over Delvets and Sussex West, but heavy rainfall and a top-ranked Steevers team would eventually derail the Warriors’ dreams.
Indian River makes move in volleyball
Volleyball has had a slow start in Sussex County, but Indian River High School has moved the sport in the right direction by hosting its very first camp from Aug. 8-12.
Junior baseball team has good ride
As long as one goes forward instead of backwards, an accomplishment is achieved and though the Lower Sussex Junior Baseball League team didn’t get to the World Series, they did improve on last year’s standing.
Fishing report
No complaints on fishing this week, reports Trudy from Cedar Creek Tackle Shop. Some very nice flounder ranging from 2, 5 and up to 6.4-pounds taken in the anchorage near G buoy, and good catches of croakers around F & G.
