Bethany Beach

• The annual summer entertainment series hosted by Bethany Beach will feature the Acoustic Dialtones on Friday, July 22, at 7 p.m. (note the time) at the boardwalk bandstand. The (non-acoustic) Fabulous Dialtones will perform their rock sounds on Saturday, July 23, also at 7 p.m.

Saxxy will perform music from the ’60s to the ’90s on Sunday, July 24, at 7:30 p.m. The Phineas T. Waggs one-man show will be presented Wednesday, July 27, at 7:30 p.m., also on the bandstand.

The National Aquarium’s Ocean Awareness Days and the Ocean Health fair will take place on the town’s beach and boardwalk between Monday, July 25, and Thursday, July 28, with a variety of informational and other seaside presentations from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day.

• The Bethany Beach Town Council will hold a special meeting Monday, July 25, at 1 p.m. at the town hall. The objective of the meeting is discussion and possible vote on the development of recommendations for a town charter amendment to provide legislative control for the use of the former Christian church and Neff properties. The amendment will be used to develop draft concepts that will be available for public review and comment.

Fenwick Island

• The Fenwick Island Town Council will hold its regular monthly meeting on Friday, July 22, at 3:30 p.m. at the town hall. The meeting will include updates from various town committees and formal announcement of the town council’s annual reorganizational meeting, set for Aug. 11.

• The Fenwick Island Society of Homeowners (FISH) will translate its traditional “meet-the-candidates” forum into a “meet-the-incumbents” event due to the cancellation of elections in the town this year (no new candidates were presented).

The event will take place as part of the FISH annual meeting, set for Saturday, July 23, at 10 a.m. at the town hall. The incumbents have been invited to discuss their contributions during their previous term, as well as their goals for the next two years.

FISH officer elections will also be held during the meeting, which is open to the public, though voting is restricted to members. Dues cost $10 yearly and can be mailed to Mary Scherff at 28 West Sussex Street, Fenwick Island, DE  19944.

South Bethany

• South Bethany Town Council will meet for workshop Thursday, July 28, at 3 p.m, at town hall (402 Evergreen Road). On the agenda, continuation of a discussion regarding video games at Grotto Pizza in the York Beach Mall.

Dagsboro

Dagsboro Town Council will meet Monday, July 25, at 7 p.m., at the Bethel Center (107 Clayton Street).

• As of July 20, there were two public hearing scheduled: (1) a Riverview Associates request for change of zone, from Light Industrial and Residential to High Density Residential — Residential Planned Community (HR/RPC), for a 115.6-acre parcel north of Clayton Avenue and (2) a CHS Associates request for a change of zone from Residential to Residential with a cluster overlay, for a 42.2-acre parcel west of Main Street, south of Vines Creek Road (Route 26).

• Council will consider: (1) final site-plan approval for Savannah Square, a shopping center on Route 113, and (2) a conditional use for a temporary sales/construction trailer at Route 26 and Clayton Avenue.

• There will be an update on the town water project and consideration of preliminary site plan approval for the Woodlands at Pepper Creek project.

• Under other business, consideration of: (1) making town code available on General Code Publisher’s Web site, (2) confirmation and ratification of the procedures that were taken for the compliance letter (precursor to the liquor license) issued to Crabby Bill’s Restaurant, (3) William Chandler’s request for a “certificate of compliance” procedure, see above, (4) review of road width standards, and (5) a report on planning commission issues, including an update of the town’s Comprehensive Development Plan (CDP) and appointment of members.

• In addition, consideration of: (1) ordinances related to apartments (definitions, dimensional requirements) and (2) signage, (3) the status chart for projects in town, (4) using Sussex County for building inspections, (5) adopting the 2003 International Building Code (IBC) and International Residential Code (IRC), (6) status of the new Town Hall, (7) review and approval of town building permits, (8) appointment of a Hazard Inspection Committee for a property at 405 Main Street, and (9) agreements with Artesian Water and (10) Cea-Dag Apartments.

Sussex County Council

Sussex County Council will meet Tuesday, July 26, at 10 a.m., at the County Admin Building (2 The Circle, Georgetown).

• Council will consider: (1) entering into a memorandum of understanding with the Office of the State Fire Marshal, (2) a library advisory board appointment, (3) an engineering contract associated with expansions at the South Coastal Regional Wastewater Facility (SCRWF), and (4) a change order associated with work at the Bayview and Sea Country Estates Sanitary Sewer District.

• Council is scheduled to host a public workshop regarding the Moderately Priced Housing Program, following the regular meeting, at 1 p.m.

Indian River School District (IRSD)

The IRSD School Board will meet Tuesday, July 26, at 7:30 p.m., at the brand-spankin’ new Indian River High School (Dagsboro).

• Under new business, Delaware State Testing Program (DSTP) test scores and a review of the 143rd state legislative session.

• The board will consider an Indian River High School Soccer Boosters request and the major capital improvements progress report under old business.

• Also on the agenda, a unit count update from the superintendent’s office and among financial reports, major cap financial summaries, the Nutrition Service budget for fiscal 2006 and school meal prices for the coming year.

Sussex County Planning Commission

The Sussex County Planning & Zoning Commission will meet at 7 p.m. on Thursday, July 28, in the County Council Chambers of the County Administrative Office Building in Georgetown.

The meeting is scheduled to include consideration of two ordinance amendments:

• An ordinance to amend Chapter 115 of the Code of Sussex County, titled “Zoning,” to amend the provisions relating to the placement of multi-sectional mobile homes on 5 acres or less in an AR-1 district; and

• An ordinance to amend Chapter 115 of the Code of Sussex County to define a garage/studio apartment and to permit such apartments with parking as special exceptions in AR-1, AR-2, and MR districts.

Other items on the agenda for the meeting include:

• Further consideration of Subdivision #2004-26 – the final application of Lawrence A. Biasotto for the subdivision of land in a MR Medium Density Residential District, dividing 12.73 acres into 37 lots (The Fresh Pond), located south of Hickman Road (Road 359) and east of Cedar Neck Road (Road 357);

• A public hearing on change of zoning request #1577 — the application of PGS Properties to amend the Comprehensive Zoning Map from an AR-1 Agricultural Residential District to a C-1 General Commercial District for 6.49 acres of land at the northeast corner of Route 54 and Road 381 (Old Mill Bridge Road);

• A public hearing on change of zoning request #1578 — the application of PGS Properties to amend the Comprehensive Zoning Map from an AR-1 Agricultural Residential District to a HR-1 High Density Residential District for 12.68 acres of land lying north of Route 54 and east of Road 381 (Old Mill Bridge Road);

• A public hearing on change of zoning request #1579 — the application of Sussex Lumber Land Company LLC to amend the Comprehensive Zoning Map from an AR-1 Agricultural Residential District to a C-1 General Commercial District for 2 acres of land lying northeast of Road 83 and 600 feet northeast of U.S. Route 113;

• Consideration of a preliminary site plan for the Americana Bayside residential planned community (RPC) off Route 54, for Phases 7a, 7b, 9a, 9b, 10a and 10b; and

• Consideration of the final record plan for change of zoning request #1240, for the White Creek Landing RPC off Road 351.
