The Roxana CHEER Senior Center is hosting its 31st Older Americans’ Health and Awareness Fair on May 6, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. The fair will be held at the senior center in the Edward Pyle State Service Building located on Route 20 in Frankford.

Area hospitals and health organizations will be providing FREE health screenings and informational booths. Types of screenings will include foot, glucose, bone density, vision and glaucoma, cholesterol and blood pressure screenings.

Sen. Thomas Carper’s office will be sending a representative who will be available for your questions or comments regarding various issues including Medicare, Social Security, Veterans and the State of Delaware.

Refreshments will be available throughout the day with lunch being served at noon. Bud Scott will be providing entertainment from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. The seniors will also be having a bake sale to help earn money for the Roxana Senior Membership. All are welcomed to attend.

Wellness office offers Qigong to patients

The Sussex County office of the Wellness Community-Delaware is planning to offer Qigong to interested people that are affected by cancer. This ancient Chinese practice integrates physical postures, breathing techniques and focused intention. The gentle, rhythmic movements of Qigong reduce stress, build stamina, increase vitality, and enhance the immune system.

The Wellness Community-Delaware is part of a national nonprofit organization that provides support, education, and hope to people with cancer and their loved ones. Through participation in professionally led support groups, educational workshops and mind/body classes, people affected by cancer learn vital skills that enable them to regain control, reduce isolation and restore hope, regardless of the stage of the disease. At the Wellness Community-Delaware, all programs are free.
