The Agenda
• The Fenwick Island Beach Patrol Committee will meet Saturday, April 9, at 11 a.m. in the town hall. The agenda includes a report from patrol Capt. Tim Ferry, discussion of state beach coverage; review of the planned Junior Lifeguard Program; discussion of signs for lifeguard stands; and discussion of the planned bonfire event.
• The Fenwick Island Commercial Liaison Committee will meet Wednesday, April 13, at 10 a.m. in the town hall.
• Fenwick Island will hold a “visioning” workshop for the town’s business community on Wednesday, April 13, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at the town hall.
• The Bethany Beach Charter and Ordinance Committee (CORC) will meet Thursday, April 14, at 2 p.m. Among the items on the agenda for the meeting are: review of Section 190 (Skateboards) and discussion of possible changes; review of Section 179 (Property Maintenance) to compare to New International Code on Property Maintenance; and review of regulations regarding who can vote in town elections (Chapter 232 Voting and Voter Registration).
The meeting time is the first after a change enacted at the committee’s previous meeting. They will now be held on the Thursday prior to the monthly town council meeting, at 2 p.m.
• The Bethany Beach Town Council will hold a special meeting at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, April 15, for the purposes of an executive session to discuss potential litigation. The meeting is not an open session and is not open to the public.
• The Bethany Beach Town Council will hold its regular monthly meeting on Friday, April 15, at 7:30 p.m. at the town hall.
The agenda includes: discussion and possible vote on the DNREC/Parks and Recreation Grant for the former Christian Church property; and discussion and a vote concerning a previously adopted ordinance on Section 60-12 (B) of Chapter 60 (“Licensing of Commercial Establishments Alcoholic Beverages”) of the town code, which extended the sunset provision for “waiting area bars” from Jan. 31, 2005, to April 30, 2005.
Also on the agenda are first readings for: 1) an ordinance regulating wireless communications facilities; and 2) an ordinance regulating swimming pools. The council will also consider the Budget and Finance Committee’s mission statement and charter and consider awarding concessions for boardwalk exercise and yoga classes.
The town of Bethany Beach will flush water lines between Monday, April 11, and Friday, April 15, between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m.
The town flushes its water system twice a year spring and fall to rid the system of any accumulated sediment for highest quality water and to ensure that fire hydrants are operating properly in case of an emergency.
During the time the flushing is being performed property owners may find that their water is discolored. Water should return to normal within a few hours. It is recommended that no laundry be done during the flushing periods to prevent discoloration.

Intent to run for Town Council

Candidates must be 21 years of age, U.S. citizens and either (1) “freeholders” for 90 days or (2) residents for nine months.
Council Members Lloyd Hughes, Bonnie Lambertson and Richard Ronan are up for another term, but only Ronan had re-filed as of press time.
Friday, April 8 Town Council meeting, 7 p.m., Town Hall.
Council will adopt the 2005/2006 budget and rental tax rate.
There will be a third and final reading of an ordinance to bring the town into concurrence with the county in matters of building code, and Council Member Bob Cestone will introduce a resolution to revise South Bethany’s schedule of fees
Tuesday, April 12 town planning and zoning (P&Z) meeting, 1 p.m., Town Hall.
Work begins on the Comprehensive Development Plan (CDP) update.
• The Sussex County Planning & Zoning Commission will meet Thursday, April 14, at 7 p.m., in the County Council Chambers of the County Administrative Office Building in Georgetown.
Among the items on the agenda are:
• Further consideration of the application from Riverview LLC to rezone a 79.432-acre parcel southeast of Road 346A and east of Road 346 from a MR Medium Density Residential District to a MR-RPC Medium Density Residential District-Residential Planned Community;
• Further consideration of preliminary plans for Subdivision #2003-55 from Dirickson Landing Associates, to divide 20.04 acres into 19 lots in a MR Medium Density Residential District north of Road 54 and east of Road 346;
• Public hearing on a subdivision request from Timothy S. Elder for land in an AR-1 Agricultural Residential District, dividing 10.94 acres into three lots, located south of Road 367-B and west of Road 365;
• Consideration of a site plan for Bayard Road Mini Storage on Road 384;
• Consideration of a commercial site plan from Dagsboro Dental for U.S. Route 113; and
• Consideration of a time extension for a conditional use by Ronald E. Gray on Route 54.
