Four seats open on school board
Two incumbents have filed for re-election to their seats on the Indian River School District school board. Dr. Donald G. Hattier, a resident of Dagsboro, has filed for another three-year term in his District 4 seat. Nina Lou Bunting, also of Dagsboro, has filed for an additional three-year term in her District 3 seat.

Police seek graffiti suspects in Ocean View
Many homes could use a little new paint, but the new paint provided by a local vandal or vandals was considerably less than desirable for some Ocean View-area property owners.

Sussex County Council spent much of the Feb. 8 council meeting engaged with a subdivision appeal that had been denied at County Planning and Zoning (P&Z).

Selbyville maintains same tax rate
Members of the Selbyville Town Council unanimously agreed at their meeting Monday, Feb. 7, to retain the town’s existing tax rate of $1.85 per $100 of assessed property value into the 2005-2006 fiscal year.

Selbyville fines Mountaire for sewage slip
Selbyville Town Council members unanimously agreed at their Feb. 7 meeting to assess Mountaire Corporation a fine of $3,000 for sewage violations in November. An administrative penalty of $1,000 was assessed for each of three incidents in which the company exceeded maximum levels for biochemical (or biological) oxygen demand (BOD).

Daisey welcome back as Frankford mayor
Frankford Town Council returned Robert Daisey to President and welcomed Maynard Esender as the new Vice President at the Feb. 7 council meeting.

Bethany sets hearing on development plan
The creation of a comprehensive development plan for Bethany Beach will take one more step on Friday, Feb. 18, at 6:30 p.m., when a public hearing calling for comment on the final draft plan is held. The hearing is set for the town meeting room in Bethany Beach Town Hall.

County thinks internationally

Mardi Gras — Bethany style
The Big Easy hosted their 7th Annual Mardi Gras party on Saturday, Feb. 5. The event featured a Cajun buffet and local band lowercase blues, and raised $1,000 for the Leukemia Lymphoma Society through auction. Donating gift certificates for auction were Outrigger’s Seafood Grill, Matteo’s Restaurant, Mango’s, Howard’s Pub and Doyle’s Restaurant. Also contributing items were Bear Trap Dunes, Beach Club Golf Links, Beauty at the Beach, Lifeforce Massage and Wellness Center and the Nassau Gallery.

The Indian River varsity girls’ basketball team went 0-2 last week versus two of the most dominate northern Henlopen conference teams, Sussex Central and Caesar Rodney.
