Voveris throws her hat into the ring for South Bethany mayor

South Bethany resident and town council member Pat Voveris filed this week to run for mayor of the town in the May 24 election.

Voveris has been a home owner in South Bethany since 1995 and has served on the town council for the past three years. For two years, she was the council treasurer and chair of the Budget & Finance Committee. During that time, she oversaw two balanced budgets, and the Town added a budget surplus to its reserves. Voveris emphasized that she worked for fiscal transparency and identified actual liabilities not reflected in financial statements.

Voveris has started and built two businesses — one in graphics and printing and another in the office furniture industry. She also adopted and promoted the planting and decoration of two canal ends on Route 1, and secured the graphics for printed materials for the Community Enhancement Committee, the Water Quality Committee, the Communication & Public Relations Committee and the South Bethany Historical Society.

She is also an active member of the Neighborhood Watch, and organized the Bull Roast in 2013, as well as hosting two Christmas luncheons for the South Bethany Women’s Club and organizing neighborhood volunteers to plant dune grass.

Voveris said her priorities as mayor would emphasize fiscal responsibility and transparency, drawing on her financial and business background to keep the Town on a solid economic footing. Additionally, she said she will focus on maintaining an immaculate and safe community, with a pristine beach and clean canals, fostering community volunteerism, enhancing property values and protecting the environment of South Bethany.

The Town of South Bethany has openings for three seats for council members and one seat for mayor in the 2014 elections. Each carries a two-year term.
