TRAFFIC ALERT: Central Avenue to close and other Route 26 lane changes

The State Route 26 Mainline Improvement Project continues with a month of road closure in Ocean View, starting Monday, March 31.

Due to relocation of the sewer force main, Central Avenue will be closed at the Route 26 intersection. The road is open, but vehicles will not turn from Route 26 to Central Ave. and vice versa.

Work continues Monday to Friday, May 9, pending weather.

Motorists should follow the posted detour when trying to access northbound or southbound Central Avenue from Route 26 (Atlantic Avenue). Portable message signs will also help guide motorists through and around the work zone.

Look for continuing coverage in the March 28 edition of Coastal Point.

DelDOT announces Route 26 lane closures for March 24 to 28

Look for flaggers on Route 26 from March 24 to 28. Motorists should continue to expect lane closures from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. in several areas:

• between Woodland Avenue and Tyler Drive for clearing and grubbing and relocation of sewer force mains

• between Route 17 (Roxanna Road) and Old School Lane for tree removal and saw cutting of the roadway

• at Woodland Avenue for tree removal.

Detours are not required for this. Traffic will alternate, as directed by flaggers. Motorists should drive with caution, slow down in work zones, and never enter a roadway that has been blocked with barriers or cones.

Meanwhile, there will be no lane closures for the following: utility relocation and silt fence installation from Clarksville to Ocean View; installation of a new pump station west of Irons Lane; removal of items in the right-of-way from Route 17 to Grants Avenue.

George & Lynch is building this 4-plus-mile widening project from Assawoman Canal in Bethany Beach to St. George’s U.M. Church in Clarksville. Foul weather like rainstorms and blizzards could push the schedule further than the September of 2016 end date.
