Shorebirds best Lakewood, return home to face Hagerstown
The Delmarva Shorebirds finished their series last week against Lakewood with three wins and a loss, coming on the heels of a 2-1 series against West Virginia, which was also on the road.
Their 10-4 win last Sunday, July 13, put the team at 14-11 for the second half of the season, but they would fall to Greensboro last Tuesday, July 15, to fall to 14-12.
Tuesday’s game against the Grasshoppers was called after seven innings due to inclement weather, with the ’Birds falling by the final score of 4-0.
Pitcher Steven Brault took the mound through six innings in that game, giving up a two-run home run in the process. Reliever Alex Santana didn’t fare much better before the game was called in the seventh, giving up two one-run homers.
Still, the Baltimore Orioles honored two Shorebirds players recently, naming Chance Sisco as their player of the month and Jon Keller as their pitcher of the month for June. The right-handed reliever Keller held opponents to just a .213 average for the month. Pitcher Hunter Harvey had received the accolade for the month of May.
The ’Birds will return home on Friday, June 18, to face Hagerstown at 7:05 p.m. They’ll face the Nationals’ affiliate for a four-game series before hitting the road again on Wednesday, July 23.
