Romeo’s finds sweetheart spot for new Bethany diner
Bethany Beach now has a new offering for those looking for something to eat on the town’s west side early in the day. Romeo’s Kitchen, adjacent to Bethany Cycle and Fitness and across the street from Grotto’s Pizza on Route 26, is now open for business. They will be open year-round from 6 a.m. to 3 p.m., serving breakfast and lunch in a diner-style atmosphere.
Coastal Point • Ruslana LambertRomeo’s Kitchen, next to Bethany Cycle and Fitness, recently celebrated its grand opening. The diner will serve breakfast and lunch, from 6 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Suitable for the setting, the breakfast menu contains everything from omelets to hotcakes to French toast and chipped beef. And for lunch, they serve everything from classic burgers and fries to chicken melts and Reubens.
Owner Onur “Romeo” Cekmecelioglu already co-owns T.C. Diner in West Ocean City and their second location just outside Fenwick Island on Route 1, with that business credited with providing one of the best breakfast and lunch menus in Ocean City, including the some of the area’s top-ranked chipped beef gravy. But Cekmecelioglu said he wanted to strike out on his own with his namesake restaurant and appeal to a more local crowd.
So, after looking for, and finding, a place he found suitable for offering breakfast fare — something he thought the area needed — Cekmecelioglu and friends went to work re-doing the inside of the former Tropicana Sun beach store, from new tile and carpet to a new kitchen and additional restroom. After a quick transformation, their grand opening was held the second weekend in May, and feedback so far has been good, according to Cekmecelioglu.
“Everybody likes it. They are saying good things and it makes me proud,” he said.
Romeo’s Kitchen is located at 729 A Garfield Parkway in Bethany Beach. Breakfast is served all day, and lunch is available after 11 a.m. For more information, call (302) 539-4445.
