Preparations under way for Operation SEAs the Day
Bethany Beach’s “Operations SEAs the Day” Warrior Week is scheduled for Sept. 2-7, offering a week at the beach for recovering wounded soldiers and their families. Organizers said the plan is to show appreciation for the services and sacrifices made by the soldiers and to treat them and their families with the honor they deserve.
Veterans and their families who participated in the event in 2013 called it “magical” and “life-changing,” they said. “The outpouring of generosity in the community was heartwarming and much appreciated by our heroes and their families.”
Among the preparations leading up to Warrior Week, is the Poster Pal Project, designed as a way to connect families visiting Bethany throughout the summer to Operation SEAs the Day. Poster-making stations will be set up at various locations for the summer where residents and visitors can stop by to decorate their own welcome sign for our warrior VIFs (Very Important Families).
These signs will be used the morning of Sept. 2 on the road leading to the VFW, as the warrior families arrive in town, and will again be used at the Freeman Stage at Bayside on Sept. 5. A tent will periodically be open located inside the white picket fence near the Bethany Beach playground and basketball courts for poster-making.
Operation SEAs the Day merchandise is also available, with all proceeds from the sale of the merchandise going to the benefit of the soldiers and their families during the Warrior Week in Bethany.
Locations where the merchandise can be purchased include:
• Sea Colony Beach Shoppe, all summer long;
• Millville Super Giant, on weekends (periodically), sold by a volunteer from WSFS Bank of Ocean View;
• VFW Chicken Stand: 10 a.m. to noon on Saturdays;
• Bethany Farmer’s Market, 9 a.m. to noon on Sundays;
• Millville Farmer’s Market, 9 a.m. to noon on Thursdays (beginning mid-July);
