OVPD makes drug bust after vehicle stop
Ocean View police this week arrested an Ocean View man on drug charges after having stopped his vehicle for a registration violation. According to the OVPD, PFC Sidney Ballentine had observed a blue Ford Focus with Maryland tags on West Avenue in Ocean View, and a routine check on the vehicle’s registration indicated that the registration was suspended. Ballentine stopped the car, and the driver was identified as Alan M. Belanger, 22, of Ocean View.
An additional computer check, police said, revealed that Belanger’s driving privileges had been revoked in association with a previous arrest for driving under the influence. The car was impounded, and an inventory of its contents revealed a plastic Tupperware container holding two large zip-top bags of suspected marijuana.
According to the OVPD, the combined weight of the marijuana was approximately 61 grams, with an estimated street value of $250 to $350. Suspected drug paraphernalia was also located in the car, they said.
Belanger was charged with possession of marijuana, maintaining a vehicle for keeping controlled substances, five counts of possession of drug paraphernalia, driving while revoked, no vehicle insurance and fictitious/canceled vehicle registration. He was released on $4,250 unsecured bond, pending arraignment in the Court of Common Pleas.
