Ellen ‘Louise’ Betts-Hemphill-Gannon, 72

Ellen “Louise” Betts-Hemphill-Gannon, 72, of Millsboro, passed peacefully into the hands of her Lord on Friday, Jan. 11, 2008, surrounded by her loving family. She was a lifetime member of the Frederica United Methodist Church and active in the Long Neck United Methodist Church. She passionately supported various children and veterans organizations.

Greeted by loved ones that had passed before her, she will be greatly missed by those who remain behind. She was many things to many people during her life: daughter, sister, cousin, niece, aunt, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. Her strong spirit, warm heart, compassion, honesty, humor, poetry and love touched everyone, many deeply.

Betts-Hemphill-Gannon was preceded in death by her parents, Louder Sapp Betts and Ellen Parker Matlack. She is survived by her husband of 31 years, Mitchell Robert “Bob” Gannon Jr. of Millsboro; her daughters, Eva Kay Morris, Theresa Ellen Roberts-Biener and her husband Gregory of Millsboro; her sons, William Joseph Hemphill of Bellingham, Wash., Steven Michael Hemphill and his wife Nicole of Felton, and William Wesley Hemphill II of Millsboro; a brother, Benjamin Betts and his wife Ruth of Frederica; a sister, Naomi Tribbitt of Lincoln; a sister-in-law, Ann Gannon of Millsboro; 11 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; four nieces, eight nephews; and numerous cousins.

A funeral service will be held Friday, Jan. 19, 2008, at 11 a.m. at the chapel of Melson Funeral Services, 32013 Long Neck Rd., Millsboro, where friends may call Thursday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to Delaware Hospice, Southern Division, 20167 Office Circle, Georgetown, DE 19947; or Tunnell Cancer Center, 18941 John J. Williams Hwy., Rehoboth Beach, DE 19971.

Dina J. Heddinger, 40

Dina J. Heddinger, 40, of Frankford, passed away Friday, Jan. 11, 2008, at Lewes Convalescent Center. She was a member of Fenwick Island Baptist Church.

Heddinger was preceded in death by her father, William L. Heddinger. She is survived by her mother, Jo Anne M. Heddinger of Frankford; her brother, Jerry Heddinger of Laurel; Joe and Lelia Hart; her aunts and uncles, Dawn Miller, Pat and Donald Engle, William and Rose Litz and Sandra Heddinger; also several cousins and friends.

Funeral services were scheduled for Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2008, with interment in Delaware Veterans Cemetery, Millsboro. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations be made to Fenwick Island Baptist Church, 36806 Lighthouse Rd., Selbyville, DE 19975.

Maureen Alanna Moriarty Schab, 58

Maureen Alanna Moriarty Schab, 58, of Lewes, passed away Monday, Dec. 24, 2007. She was a math teacher, karate instructor, tennis player, beach lover, wife, mother, grandmother-to-be and one brave, strong and gutsy lady who knew when to say when. She was a black belt in Tae Kwon-Do and loved teaching it at the Sussex Family YMCA.

For the last 20 years she also found time to perform as her husband’s bookkeeper at the law firm of Schab & Barnett, while teaching at Milton Junior High, Lewes Middle School, and most recently and for many years, Academic Challenge at DelTech in Georgetown.

Schab was preceded in death by her father, Timothy Moriarty. She is survived by her mother, Laurie; her husband of 35 years, Bill; their son, Corey; their daughter Kerry and her husband, Chris, who are expecting in June; two brothers and their families; many aunts, uncles, cousins, in-laws and more than 100 first and second cousins.

A funeral mass was held Saturday, Dec. 29, 2007. In lieu of flowers, it was Schab’s wish that the money be spent on charity. The Maureen Schab Fund for Education has been established in her honor through the Greater Lewes Foundation. Tax-deductible donations may be sent to the fund at P.O. Box 110, Lewes, DE 19958. Charlotte Irene Fleetwood Warren, 92

Charlotte Irene Fleetwood Warren, 92, of Tiger, Ga., passed away Monday, Jan. 14, 2008, at Mountain Lakes Medical Center in Clayton, Ga. She was a retired New Jersey school teacher and resided in Frankford for 37 years before moving to Georgia to be closer to her children.

Warren was preceded in death by her parents, Oscar Lemuel Fleetwood and Addie Selma Campbell Fleetwood; her husband, Howard Ethan Warren; a son, Kenneth Warren; and a great-grandson, James York. She is survived by a son, Robert A. Warren and his wife Rita of Fayetteville, N.C.; and a daughter, Susan “Sue” B. Butler and her husband Kirby of Tiger, Ga.; eight grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at the Beck Funeral Home in Clayton, Georgia. A graveside service will be held Friday, Jan. 18, 2008, at 3 p.m. at the Roxana Cemetery in Frankford. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association, P.O. Box 409410, Atlanta, GA 30384-9410.

Billy C. Wingate, 73

Billy C. Wingate, 73, of Dagsboro, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family on Saturday, Jan. 12, 2008, at the Berlin Nursing Home. He was a marine pilot captain of a towing company in the New York Harbor. In 1989, he and his brother bought two chicken farms in the Dagsboro area, called Wingate Farms. He retired in 2003.

Wingate served three years in the U.S. Army, stationed in Germany. A lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and a member of the American Legion, he loved life and enjoyed his home in Florida after his retirement. He was proud of his son and two wonderful grandsons, who will truly miss him.

Wingate was preceded in death by his parents, William C. and Virginia Wingate; two brothers, George and Warren Wingate; three sisters, Ida Wingate, Pauline Quillen and Betty Derrickson. He is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Norma Lee (Evans) Wingate; a son, William Louis Wingate and daughter-in-law Holly; two grandsons, William Luke Wingate and Holden Selby Wingate; a brother, Lemuel J. Wingate; three sisters, Marie Mitchell, Grace Hudson and Faye Daisey; and several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service was scheduled for Thursday, Jan. 17, 2008. Burial was to be private. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions in his name to The Building Fund at Ocean View Church of Christ, P.O. Box 1247, Ocean View, DE 19970.
