Millsboro woman killed, another injured in crash near Millsboro

A Millsboro woman was killed and another injured in a crash on Banks Road near Millsboro on Tuesday evening.

Police said the crash occurred about 9:07 p.m. as Frances Baskwill, 75, of Millsboro, drove a 2004 Toyota Matrix south on Banks Road. Baskwill, they said, began to turn left toward Friendship Drive, and the front of her vehicle collided with the front of a 2008 Chevrolet Malibu, which was traveling north on Banks Road.

Baskwill and her passenger, Patricia Murphy, 77, also of Millsboro, were both transported by ambulance to Beebe Medical Center, police said. Baskwill suffered non-life-threatening injuries to her lower body, they said, but Murphy was pronounced dead shortly after being transported from the crash scene. The driver of the Malibu, a 38-year-old Millsboro man, was not injured. All occupants were properly restrained at the time of the crash, police said.

The Collision Reconstruction Unit was continuing its investigation into the crash this week, and no charges had been filed as of mid-week. Banks Road was closed for approximately three hours as troopers investigated and cleared the crash.
