Lower Sussex takes Major League Softball district championship
Lower Sussex notched a Delaware Little League District III championship last Monday, June 30, with a 6-3 victory over Nanticoke.
All-Star tournament veteran Airelle Parker pulled off an inside-the-park grand slam in the sixth inning, adding four runs that would ultimately be the difference in the game. The line drive to right field came with two outs in the inning.
With the victory, the team earned a bid to the July 9 tournament to be held in New Castle County, where they’ll face some higher competition in a three-team, double-elimination bracket against the District I winner.
Should they advance through the state tournament, they’ll move on to East Regionals, to be held in Bristol, Conn., which will offer them a chance to head to the Major League World Series in Portland, Ore.
