Incumbents keep seats in IRSD

The three incumbents running for re-election in Districts 4 and 5 in the Indian River School District were the winners in voting on Tuesday, May 12. Donald Hattier, currently representing District 4, garnered 423 votes, topping challengers Chris White and Harold Walters, who tallied 226 and 162 votes, respectively. In District 5, two seats were up for grabs, with at least one incumbent guaranteed re-election. Former Frankford Elementary School Principal and Delaware’s National Distinguished Elementary School Principal for 2003 Sharon Brittingham fell short in her efforts to unseat either of the incumbents, however, with only 109 votes, compared to 297 for Donna Mitchell and 276 for Reginald Helms, who advertised their re-election aims to potential voters as a package. The three re-elected board members will serve additonal three-year terms starting July 1. Incumbent Nina Lou Bunting was unopposed in her District 3 re-election bid and will also be seated for another three-year term.
