The month of May is an exciting time for the Indian River High School music program, as coming up Friday, May 16, and Saturday, May 17, is the IR Stage Band’s presentation of “Movie Magic!” Each evening’s performance begins at 6:30 p.m., and will feature hit songs from such movies as “Frozen,” “The Blues Brothers,” “Grease,” “The Wizard Of Oz” and many more.

Tickets cost only $7 for adults, $5 for students, and a two-night ticket costs only $10. Tickets will be sold at the door only.

Also, the IR Band Boosters will hold a raffle for two free movie tickets per month for an entire year, graciously donated by the Clayton Theater!

The raffle tickets will be sold at the performance, and the winning ticket will be drawn Saturday night. You do not need to be present to win.

The students have worked incredibly hard on this year’s show, so please come out and help us sell out both shows and give these talented performers a packed audience!

The IR Concert Band and Chorus will perform their Spring Concert on Tuesday, May 20, at 7 p.m. in the IR Auditorium. This performance is free, and light refreshments will be served afterward.

The final event of this busy year for the IR music program is the annual Band & Chorus Banquet on Thursday, May 22, at 6 p.m. in the IR cafeteria. The banquet honors all our talented musicians and singers for a job well done.

Speaking of jobs well done: Recently, the IR Band traveled to Myrtle Beach, S.C., where they participated in an adjudicated performance at Coastal Carolina University and earned a rating of “Superior.” Congratulations to Mr. Marvel and the band on another outstanding performance!

On behalf of the entire IR Band Boosters organization, I would like to commend our talented group of musicians and singers for their hard work and dedication to the IR Music Department. A lot of hard work, long hours and sweat go into what these kids do, and they are to be commended for it. To the parents of these talented music makers: We thank you, as well, for your dedication to your children. We look forward to bigger and better things in the upcoming school year!

Remember: Making music makes you smarter!
