Gee performing at McDaniel College
Matthew Gee, a junior from Millsboro, Del., will perform in the annual College Choir Concert at McDaniel College, 2 College Hill, Westminster, Md., the college announced this week. The performance, which is free and open to the public, will take place Sunday, April 27, 7 p.m., in Baker Memorial Chapel.
The college choir will present “Make Them Hear You” under the direction of Margaret Boudreaux, music professor and department chair. The concert features the signature song “Make Them Hear You” from the musical “Ragtime,” as well as other pieces that have been chosen to reflect highly expressive music and poetry of all ages. The Madrigal Singers, McDaniel’s a cappella vocal ensemble, will also perform on several selections.
According to Boudreaux, “We’ll open with a fairly well known South African song ‘Siyahamba’ as an homage to recently departed Nelson Mandela. Another piece is the premiere of a new work based on various things said after the Boston Marathon bombing last year, including part of President Obama’s speech invoking the words ‘You Will Run Again.’ Some works are more metaphorical, as is the setting of Poe’s poem ‘Evening Star’ and the Lennon and McCartney favorite ‘Blackbird.’”
She added, “Numerous solos will be featured throughout the evening, and the college’s Madrigal Singers will also be featured on several selections.”
