Dolores M. Kistler, 77

Dolores M. Kistler, 77, of Selbyville, Del., passed away Monday, Aug. 11, 2008, at the Delaware Hospice Center in Milford, Del. She was raised with a strong work ethic that started at the Downtown Athletic Club in New York City, N.Y., as an aspiring administrative manager. She worked for the Federal Aviation Administration at Kennedy Airport and on Long Island, N.Y., until retirement.

Kistler relocated to sunny Florida, where she worked for the City of Kissimmee Public Works Department for more than 19 years as office manager. Her most enjoyable time was working for the Delaware State Park as a parking-lot attendant on Coastal Highway, where she ensured that every animal accompanying each vehicle was given a free treat as admission to the beach that day. She loved animals with a passion.

Kistler was preceded in death by her parents, Charles Edward and Mary Elizabeth Burns. She is survived by her son, Charles Thomas Kistler of Selbyville; two grandchildren, Charles Andrew and Emmett Alexander; her beautiful sister, Roberta Helen McClain and her husband, Oliver; her endearing brother, Charles Thomas Burns and his wife, Christine; and her comical cousin, Anne Marie Jamison and her husband, Elwood. Beth Woodall was her true-north companion and primary caregiver during many of those uncertain and painful times.

Memorial services will be offered Friday, Aug. 22, 2008, at 11 a.m. at the Parish of St. Ann, Bethany Beach, Del. Interment services will be held privately in Pottsville, Pa., at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you please make donations in her memory to Delaware Hospice Center, 100 Patriots Way, Milford, DE 19963.
