Turkey Trot raises $2,300 for Special Olympics Delaware
The 2nd annual Sea Colony Turkey Trot 5k & Fun Walk, held Nov. 28, 2004, raised $2,300 for Special Olympics Delaware (SODE). Nearly 70 runners and walkers braved the inclement weather to compete in the event, with John Williamson, with a time of 18.21, winning the race for the second year.
SDOE officials thanked the dozens of community volunteers and sponsors for making the second year event a success. SODE will use the race donation to develop programs in the Bethany Beach area.
The 3rd annual Turkey Trot is tentatively scheduled for Nov. 27, 2005.

Mercantiles’ Giles earns top awards
Mercantile Mortgage, LLC, has announced that Alexa Giles, home mortgage consultant, is the recipient of two prestigious corporate awards for accomplishments in 2004: Reverse Mortgage Referral Partner of the Year and Producer with the Highest Customer Service Ratings. Both awards place Giles among the top home mortgage consultants with Mercantile Mortgage, LLC, and are a testament to her dedication to excellence and customer service, according to the company.
As Reverse Mortgage Referral Partner of the Year, Giles referred more senior home mortgage customers to their Reverse Mortgage Specialist than any other home mortgage consultant within Mercantile. A reverse mortgage is a unique product backed by the Federal Government that allows seniors aged 62 or older to convert the equity in their primary residence into a source of income. Through the Reverse Mortgage program, they may be eligible to receive periodic payments to supplement a fixed income or receive a lump sum to pay for home improvements or another need.
“This program offers such a tremendous advantage to seniors who qualify,” said Giles. “It’s a great way for seniors to put extra money in their pockets at a time in life when they can really use it.”
Giles also achieved a 100 percent customer service rating in 2004. Mercantile compiles customer service data from anonymous customer surveys that are completed after a home financing transaction. A 100 percent rating is extremely difficult to achieve and is very rare in the industry. Giles is the first home mortgage consultant with Mercantile Mortgage, LLC, to achieve this distinction.
“I am so honored to have received these two awards,” said Giles. “Customer service is a priority for me, so knowing that my customers felt I did a good job is the ultimate compliment. I’m extremely proud to have been recognized in this way.”
Giles can be contacted locally at 537-4100, or toll free at (800) 861-6372.
