Beebe Medical Center Rehabilitation Services has announced that, effective Feb. 18, the outpatient services at Beebe Physical Therapy-Millville, located at Creekside Plaza, 203 Atlantic Avenue, will include occupational therapy and speech therapy services. Representatives said this expansion of services will enable Beebe Medical Center to offer the community a continuity of care for those patients who require multidisciplinary services in one convenient location.
Occupational therapy, they said, is a goal-orientated therapy that addresses the individual needs of the patient in the performance of daily living activities such as personal self-care, homemaking/management, job and work tasks, as well as leisure pursuits. Treatment is patient-centered and focuses on the rehabilitation and prevention of further injury and deformity. Stroke patients are evaluated and treated using some of the latest advances in stroke therapy.
Speech and swallowing difficulties often result from stroke, illness or injury, according to Beebe representatives. Speech pathology (speech therapy) may also be required where cognitive or memory disturbances impair the patient’s former speaking abilities, they said. Patients are evaluated and a treatment plan is developed incorporating a variety of oral motor articulation, swallowing and language activities.
Physical therapy helps the patient regain mobility and freedom in order to enjoy the highest quality of life possible, representatives noted. And Beebe Physical Therapy offers a range of services for recovery from surgery and joint replacements, lower back pain, arthritis, neurological disorders and other soft-tissue pain.
“Beebe Physical Therapy is an essential part of Beebe Medical Center’s overall orthopaedic services, ranked as Delaware’s finest by HealthGrades,” they said.
Office hours are 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Occupational therapy and speech therapy sessions are handled by appointment only. To make an appointment, telephone the office at (302) 539-6404.
