Beebe names Carr manager of oncology sections
Brandi L. Carr, an oncology nurse with more than 12 years of experience working with cancer patients, has been named manager of oncology nursing and research at Beebe Medical Center. Carr is based at Tunnell Cancer Center and oversees a nursing staff of 27 who are assigned to radiation oncology, medical oncology and to oncology research and performance improvement.
New guidelines less restrictive on birth options
Vaginal birth after a Cesarean, or VBAC, is a safe and reasonable option for most women – including for some women who have had two previous cesareans – according to the nation’s leading group of professionals providing health care for women, the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, or ACOG. Their updated, “less restrictive” guidelines on VBAC were released last week.

The young and old, flexible and not-so-flexible, the athletes and couch potatoes, and those of every heritage will be able to find a workshop perfect for them, organizers said.

On Tuesday afternoon, Attorney General Joseph R. “Beau” Biden III ordered Delaware Department of Justice personnel to begin removing and storing certain items from the outside of Dr. Earl Bradley’s Baybees pediatric office in Lewes. The items, which were removed on Feb.
Charges filed against Lewes doctor
Lewes pediatrician Dr. Earl B. Bradley was charged with an additional 24 charges on Friday, Dec. 18, after turning himself in to Delaware State Police Troop 4 detectives on that morning. Police said more alleged victims have been identified in their investigation of alleged rape and exploitation of children, but they emphasized that it was still too early to determine the exact number of victims allegedly involved in incidents with Bradley.

The Delaware State Police on Wednesday, Dec. 16, reported that DSP Troop 4 detectives were investigating Dr. Earl B. Bradley – a pediatrician with an office in Lewes, Del. – in reference to charges of unlawful sexual contact.
Beebe cancels flu shot clinics
Beebe Medical Center announced Wednesday, Oct. 14, that it had run out of supplies of the seasonal flu vaccine and was canceling the previously announced free flu shot clinics until further notice. Beebe Medical Center plans to resume giving free flu shots if more vaccine becomes available, representatives said.
Beebe receives five-star rating for orthopedics
Beebe Medical Center representatives announced this week that the medical center has been ranked among the top 5 percent of all hospitals in the nation for orthopedic care. They have been rated No. 1 in Delaware and on the Delmarva Peninsula for overall orthopedic care for the past four years but wanted to improve, said Wallace Hudson, Beebe’s vice president for corporate affairs.
Carper helps vote bill out of committee
Sen. Tom Carper (D-Del.) voted in support of major health care reform legislation that passed out of the Senate Finance Committee on Tuesday, Oct. 13, and will move to full Senate consideration in the coming weeks.

Accident causes ash cloud release at IR power plant
On Tuesday, July 28, just after 8 a.m., an inspection port on a silo at the NRG-owned Indian River Generating Station (power plant) near Millsboro malfunctioned while employees were performing routine maintenance, allowing fly ash to escape while it was being loaded onto a truck for disposal.

Around 8:15 on Tuesday morning, July 28, while employees at the Indian River Indian River Generating Station near Millsboro were performing routine maintenance on an ash silo, an inspection port on the silo failed, causing ash to land on the concrete floor, NRG officials said Tuesday. Some ash, which they said is a nonhazardous byproduct of coal-powered generation, created a cloud for a time.
