Barbara Francis “Barb” McCray, 75, passed away on Aug. 30, 2019, at Nanticoke Memorial Hospital in Seaford, Del. She was born June 25, 1945, in Frankford, Del., to the late Virgil D. McCray Sr. and Elizabeth McCray.
She was educated at the William C. Jason School in Georgetown, Del. She worked in the poultry industry, transitioned into restaurant work and retired from Dirty Harry’s in Fenwick Island in 2018. She enjoyed spending time at the casino, and more importantly, the “tea,” where conversation revolved around finding out “what is going on” and her favorite saying, “Who y’all talkin’ about?” or “Who, who?”
McCray was preceded in death by her brothers, Virgil McCray Jr., Albert McCray and his wife, Mary Lou, and Allen McCray; a brother-in-law, Marvin Hall; and her sister, Hazel McCray. She is survived by her only child, Reuben McCray and his wife, Georgette, of Georgetown, Del.; two brothers, Charles McCray and his wife, Edna, and Alfred McCray and his wife, Sherridia, all of Frankford, Del.; a sister, Jenny Hall, of Millsboro, Del.; sister-in-law, Patricia McCray of Millsboro; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family members; and many friends.
A funeral service and celebration of McCray’s life will be held at noon, with visitation at 11 a.m., on Saturday, Sept. 7, 2019, at St. John 2nd Baptist Church, 26602 Mount Joy Road, Millsboro, Del. The Most Rev. Roland Mifflin will officiate. Interment will follow at the Antioch AME Church Cemetery in Frankford, Del. Floral tributes are welcomed.
