Local AARP chapter offering five trips this spring

The South Coastal Delaware Chapter of AARP (formerly the American Association of Retired Persons) is offering five trips — including a four-day “I Love Lucy” adventure to Jamestown, N.Y., and Erie, Pa., which will highlight landmarks associated with the comedic television show. The offerings begin in late March and run through June. Both the overnight Lucy trip, as well as some four-day trips, are available to the public.

Travel opportunities include the Harrington Casino in Harrington on Thursday, March 28; a visit to the U.S.S. Wisconsin battleship located at the Norfolk Naval Station in Norfolk, Va., on Wednesday, April 10; a trip to New York City on Wednesday, May 22; the “I Love Lucy” adventure on June 10-13; and a day in Washington, D.C., on Sunday, June 23. All travel is by motor coach.

The cost for the visit to the Harrington Casino is $20 per person, which includes the motor coach and driver gratuities, as well as coupons toward play and a buffet lunch.

The U.S.S. Wisconsin is one of the last battleships built by the U.S. Navy. The cost for that trip is $76 for travel and entrance to the main deck of the ship. Additional tours, which involve steps and ladders, are also available for additional fees.

The New York City excursion is a day on traveler’s own to visit the many attractions of the city. The cost is $76 for the motor coach and gratuities. The bus departs at 5:30 a.m. and returns to the parking lot near the Giant grocery store in Ocean View around 11 p.m.

The “I Love Lucy” trip includes a visit to the Lucille Ball Desi Arnaz Museum & Center for Comedy, a guided driving tour of Jamestown featuring the homes where Lucille Ball was born and lived her young life, a sightseeing dinner cruise on the Chautauqua Lake, and dinner and a comedy presentation at the Tropicana Nightclub, among many other attractions. The cost is $620 or $854 per person, based on double- or single-occupancy, respectively.

A trip to the nation’s capital affords the chance to see museums, art galleries, monuments and memorials or whatever travelers want to visit. The cost is $50 per person and includes driver gratuities.
