Robert “Bobby” “Bear” F. Harrington, 73, of Dagsboro, Del., formerly of Key West, Fla., and Washington, D.C., passed away on Saturday, March 2, 2019, at the Charlotte Hall (Md.) Veterans Home. He was born in Washington on Sept. 10, 1945, son of the late Robert G. Harrington and Margaret Ann (Flynn) Harrington.
He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He retired in 1991 as one of the most highly decorated Washington, D.C., firefighters. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, the Moose, American Legion Post 24 and the Emerald Society Firefighters of Washington, D.C. He also enjoyed fishing, riding his Harley Davidson and spending time with his family.
Harrington is survived by his five siblings, Thomas Harrington and his wife, Janice, of Cooksville, Md., James Harrington and his wife, Marie, of Roxana, Del., Anne Luke and her husband, Michael, of Willards, Md., Maureen Cathell and her husband, Wayne, of Berlin, Md., and Kathleen Porterfield and her husband, Rick, of Madisonville, Tenn.; and several nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m., with visitation at 10 a.m., on Friday, March 29, 2019, at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, 35318 Church Rd., Frankford, Del. Interment with military honors will follow at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Millsboro, Del.
