Bonnie K. Donaway Harris, 67, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, Nov. 29, 2017. She was born in Millsboro, Del., on Feb. 12, 1950, to the late James Layfield and Beatrice Mitchell Layfield.
She was retired from the State of Delaware, working as a clerk for the Justice of the Peace. She was a 1968 graduate of Millsboro High School and a veteran of the United States Air Force. Harris attended college at West Los Angeles Community College and Delaware Technical Community College. She also worked at Delmarva Power & Light, owned and operated the Millsboro Shell Station and also worked as a bookkeeper/secretary for Hudson’s Garage.
In addition to her parents, Harris was also preceded in death by her husband, James Harris Sr. She is survived by her son, Jamie B. Donaway and his wife, Mandy, of Millsboro; two sisters, Shirley Long and her husband, Armon, and Donna Sinnamon; two brothers, James Layfield and his spouse, Chris, and David Layfield and his wife, Mary, all of Millsboro; five grandchildren, Mya Donaway, Dax Donaway, Jacob Dempsey, Madelyn Dempsey and Josh Dempsey; a lifelong friend who was more like a sister, Sue Fritz; and her nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.
A funeral service was scheduled for Dec. 5, 2017, at the Millsboro (Del.) Town Center. Burial was to follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Dagsboro, Del.
