Editor’s note: The following letter was addressed to state Sen. Gerald Hocker and state Rep. Ron Gray, and was sent to the Coastal Point for publication.
I read your comments and those of Ron Gray in the Coastal Point that were made at the Coffee on Us meeting. It is obvious that you both support the upcoming Indian River School District referendum to increase property taxes in February.
You should be aware that the Gray Wave is here, with more coming, and you are taking the position that will have us reevaluating our support of you and Mr. Gray in the future.
I offer the following to be fair to all involved:
Freeze the current property tax rate and establish a school use tax (a tax assessed for each child attending school, that would be eliminated as the child graduates).
This would also increase school funding as the attendance increases, without forcing those of us not involved with the school district to carry the burden.
