Theresa E. Murray, 94, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, Nov. 8, 2017. She passed away quietly, surrounded by her loving family, at home in Ocean View, Del. Born in Long Island, N.Y., she moved with her family to Laurel, Del., when she was a child and attended schools in Laurel.
Murray owned and operated Murray’s Bait & Tackle Shop in Ocean View for 52 years. Devoted to her customers and many young people who she employed, Murray was very proud of teaching those young people how to make change using just an old-fashioned cash register and basic (manual) math skills. She also was known for the many shell lamps that she made and provided to local charities.
Murray was preceded in death by her husband, James L. Murray. She is survived by her sisters, Mary Louise Janosik and Lillian Wooten; a brother, U.S. Air Force Lt. Col. Walter Hedges, Ret.; her daughters, Bonnie Cooper, Shirley Price and her husband, Gordon, and Ellen Magee; a son, Charles, and his wife, Dee Murray; grandchildren Debbie and Wendy Cooper, Michele Price McCoy, Melissa Dittman and her husband, Matt, Christopher and his wife, Charlotte, Sean and his wife, Brandy, and Michael and his wife, Hanna Magee, Brandon Murray and his wife, Isabel, and Sara Clark and her husband, Adam; great-grandchildren Courtney Wisniewski, and Graham and Hazel Magee, as well as Connor, Devin and Harrison McCoy, Brent and Elizabeth Dittman, Liam Murray, and Finley and Ransom Clark; and two great-great-grandchildren, Gavyn Lynch and Skyler Acri. She loved and was very proud of all her family.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Nov. 18, 2017, at noon at the Ocean View Chapel of Melson Funeral Services, 38040 Muddy Neck Road, Ocean View, Del., where friends may call from 9 a.m. to noon. Interment will be in St. George’s Cemetery, Clarksville, Del. The family requested memorial donations be made to Delaware Seashore Preservation Foundation/Tower Project; P.O.
