This weekend, the Bethany Beach Volunteer Fire Company will hold its 11th annual Artisans’ Fair, on Saturday, Oct. 6, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., at the fire house at Hollywood Street and Route 1.
Not only is the fair an opportunity to pick up some locally crafted gifts and goodies, but it is also a chance to support local firefighters.
All of the proceeds from renting tables to crafters goes to the fire company, according to Auxiliary President Martha Lowe.
“It’s a very successful event for us,” Lowe said of the fair. “We’re looking forward to a good turnout.”
The fair will feature 56 artisans this year, including creators of photography, jewelry, pottery, glass and wood creations, textiles, coastal-themed objects and art, and honey products.
Homemade breakfast and lunch items, as well as baked goods, will also be sold at the fair. There will also be a 50/50 raffle and a “Chinese auction” of items donated by exhibitors.
Parking for the event is free. The fire house is located at 215 Hollywood Street, Bethany Beach.
Lowe said the Auxiliary gives the department a monetary gift each year, “to let them decide what they need to have the fire company run more efficiently and effectively for the community.” She added that she doesn’t feel community members in general realize how much the fire company relies on donations and fundraisers for its operation.
