Leroy F. Merson Jr., 85, of Millsboro, Del., died on Wednesday, Aug. 29, 2018, at Delaware Hospice Center in Milford, Del. He was born Jan. 15, 1933, in Savage, Md., to Leroy F. Merson Sr. and Birdie Merson.
Merson attended the public schools of Howard County, Md. He later joined the U.S. Army. Upon his honorable discharge, Merson returned to Savage, Md., where he met the love of his life and future wife, Constance Redmond. Three children were born to the union: Larry, Lewis and Vanette.
Merson was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church in Dagsboro, Del., and served God with a sincere heart. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather, a proud man who worked hard to provide for his family. He was friendly and outgoing. He had a unique way of putting others at ease with just a few simple words. He also had a sense of humor and enjoyed life, including riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle.
In addition to his parents, Merson was preceded in death by a sister, Ruth Miklajunas, and two brothers, Ronald and Larry Merson. He leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Constance Merson; two sons, Larry and Lewis Merson; a daughter, Vanette Eaton and her husband, Richard; a sister, Patricia Brannon; a grandchild, Franklin Merson-Allen; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Military funeral honors were conveyed on Thursday, Sept. 6, 2018, at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Millsboro, Del.
