Editor's Note: Due to inclement weather, this event was rescheduled for Wednesday, Aug. 15, at South 2nd Street, South Bethany.
South Bethany residents and visitors are being invited to a Movie on the Beach hosted by the Town of South Bethany on Saturday, Aug. 11, at 7:30 p.m. The free event will take place on the beach at South 3rd Street.
“We will make it a Mexican fiesta theme, with small gifts for kids and glow necklaces,” said Carol Stevenson, town council member and chair of the Town’s Communications & Public Relations Committee.
In accordance with the theme, a family-friendly movie, “Coco,” will be played on the beach. It is the first weekend movie night for the Town.
“This is actually the second of two summer movies we have at the beach,” Stevenson said. “Residents asked us to try a weekend movie so more owners and weekenders could attend. Our summer movies are usually on weekdays. Our July movie on the beach this year was ‘Sing,’ with karaoke! We passed out treats to all children. It was very well-attended, and a good time was had by all.”
Additional entertainment on Aug. 11 will include music. The Town is encouraging attendees to bring their own beach games for more family fun.
Hotdogs, chips and water will be provided, but moviegoers are being advised to bring any other snacks they would enjoy.
“Folks should bring their beach chairs and a flashlight to guide their way home,” Stevenson said.
The Town hopes to have about 200 residents and visitors attend the event.
In the case of rain, the Movie on the Beach will likely be rescheduled for Saturday, Aug. 18.
South 3rd Street has a handicapped-accessible ramp over the dunes. The Town also owns a handicapped-accessible beach wheelchair that can be borrowed for the event. To do so, call town hall at (302) 539-3653 before 4:30 p.m. on Friday.
Restroom facilities will be available on-site, and parking is free during the time of the event.
