The eyes of the softball world will soon be upon us.
Ten teams from around this spinning globe, including a District III representative from right up the road in Georgetown, will descend upon Roxana for the Senior League Softball World Series, with games starting on Monday, July 30.
If you have yet to attend one of these tournaments, make it a point to do so this year. The play on the field alone is enough reason to take in a few games, and the spirit and enthusiasm shown by the world-class athletes in each respective dugout is another reason on its own. This is one of the premier events this community gets to host each year, and the organization, dedication of the scores of volunteers on hand and the “everybody-who-is-anybody-is-here” combine to make it great theater.
The first games of the Series will begin at 6 p.m. at the Pyle Center on Monday, followed by two more games after those (approximately 8 p.m.). Games will continue throughout the week, culminating in a world championship game on Sunday, Aug. 5, at 2 p.m. That game will be nationally televised on one of the ESPN properties.
Grab your hot dogs and seat cushions and get up to the Pyle Center next week for some world-class softball and great entertainment.
