Letter: Mentor program a hit to one educator

For the last two years, I have had the pleasure of mentoring a student at the Lord Baltimore Elementary School. I am a retired educator. I was a school administrator and was ultimately a senior administrator with responsibility for 29 schools. As such, I am a keen observer of school environments.

I have been amazed at the welcoming attitude of everyone I have encountered at Lord Baltimore — from administration to teaching staff to support staff. The whole atmosphere in the school is upbeat and friendly. The hallway murals painted by Mr. Donato and the students are a treat for the eyes.

Support staff who have been especially helpful to me include Ms. Lisa, Ms. Colleen, Mr. Dean and Ms. O’Shields. I am also grateful to Officer Ann Marie Dalton of the Ocean View Police Department, a fellow mentor, who has rescued me from vigorous games of soccer and basketball.

In my view, Ms. Webb and Mr. Bower lead a wonderful staff, which leads to a wonderful learning environment for the students.
