George Thomas Draper Jr., 84, of Millsboro, Del., passed away suddenly of heart failure at his home on June 29, 2018. He was born Jan. 19, 1934, to the late George T. Draper Sr., and Mary Lodge Bird Draper in Wilmington, Del. He was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps, serving 1953 until 1957, and won several medals, including the Good Conduct Medal, NATO Ribbon, Naval Occupation Medal, the National Defense Service medal and Presidential Unit Citation.
Draper retired as a pipefitter from the Du Pont Chambers Works plant in Deepwater, N.J.
He was a member of Oak Orchard Community Church, and worked as a driver for the Christian Storehouse. He loved people and helping anyone he could, and he was an active volunteer. He was devoted to his family, coached baseball, loved fishing and was a devoted Eagles and Phillies fan. At church, he served as a choir member, an Elder and a board member.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Linda, in 2015; his daughter, Cynthia L. Draper, in 2017; and four sisters, Mary, Eleanor, Isabelle and Anna. He is survived by his children, Carolyn C. Neil and husband, David, of Landenberg, Pa., Christopher T. Draper and wife, Rhonda, of Middletown, Del., and Stephen S. Draper of Newark, Del.; a stepdaughter, Tami Genna of Camden-Wyoming, Del.; a sister, Nancy Wright of Wilmington, Del.; seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family; many, many church friends; and his beloved canine friends, Toots and Daisy.
A visitation, memorial service and celebration of life were held July 9, 2018, at Watson Funeral Home with interment and military honors at Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, both in Millsboro, Del.
