Donald Lee Carmean, 62, of Millsboro, Del., passed away on Monday, June 18, 2018, at home in the care of his family. He was born Feb. 19, 1956, to the late Donaldson P. “Firpo” Carmean and Kathryn “Kitty” Beebe Carmean.
Carmean retired from work at the DuPont Company in 2001, after 24 years of service. He then worked as a utility engineer for Sussex County, Del., for 13 years, retiring in 2017. He was a member of the Sons of the American Legion Post 19, where he was 2nd-vice-commander, and past sergeant-at-arms for Detachment of Delaware. He was also a past member of both the Georgetown and Millsboro volunteer fire companies.
He was a very passionate family man who enjoyed spending time with his family, camping, fishing and helping others. He spent a lot of time volunteering for various organizations.
Carmean is survived by his wife of 43 years, Wanda L. Carmean of Millsboro; three children, Stephanie Kelley and her husband, Brian, of Laurel, Del., Donald L. Carmean Jr. and his wife, Ronda, of Batesburg, S.C., and Wendy Carmean of Laurel; five sisters; Shirley Hitchens of Georgetown, Peggy Coulbourne and her husband, Jim, of Milton, Del., Becky Perry and her husband, Bob, of Georgetown, Jo Ann Matthias and her husband, Kenny, of Georgetown, and his twin sister, Donna Lathbury, and her husband, Dave, of Dagsboro, Del.; eight grandchildren, Sidney Marvel Jr., Corey Marvel, Kevin Todd Jr., Matthew Carmean, Donald Baker III, Olivia Snell, Layton Carmean and Hudson Carmean; six great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends; and other extended family members.
A funeral service was to be held June 23, 2018, at the Watson Funeral Home, Millsboro, Del. Burial followed at Union Cemetery, Georgetown, Del.
