James P. “Jim” West, 76, of Frankford, Del., formerly of Snow Hill, Md., passed away, surrounded by his loving family, on Tuesday, June 19, 2018, at Beebe Healthcare in Lewes, Del. He was born in Lakeland, Fla., on March 28, 1942, son of the late James P. West Sr. and the late Alice (Linberg) Jackson. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Air Force from 1961 to 1965.
West owned the North Bethany Seafood Market in the early 1990s. He then was a self-employed architectural design engineer. West enjoyed drawing, and was a talented artist and a member of the East Sussex Moose Lodge 2542.
He enjoyed fishing, spending time with his friends, and watching golf and college basketball. West was also a talented cook and was well-known for his crabcakes, shrimp salad and lobster salad. He will be remembered as a gentle, quiet man who enjoyed taking care of his loving wife of 23 years.
In addition to his parents, West was preceded in death by his brother, Robert West. He is survived by his wife, Patricia (Hassemer) West; a son, James P. West III and his wife, Ginna, of Raleigh, N.C.; five grandchildren, Brian Casey Dowdy of Virginia, and Emily West Gillham, Clara Lee West, Keely Holt West and Sadie Lynn West, all of North Carolina; a great-grandson; a sister-in-law, Peggy West of Michigan; and several nieces and nephews.
A celebration of West’s life will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, June 22, 2018, at Melson Funeral Services, 38040 Muddy Neck Road, Ocean View, Del., where friends may call after 10 a.m. Interment will be private.
