Barbara Jean Atkins, 66, of Georgetown, Del., passed away as the results of an automobile accident on Wednesday, May 30, 2018. She was born in Lewes, Del., on Feb. 1, 1952, daughter of the late Wallace Truitt Sr. and the late Marian (Mills) Truitt.
Atkins was a 1970 graduate of John M. Clayton High School in Dagsboro, Del. She retired from work as a laboratory technician for Merck Pharmaceutical in Millsboro, Del., after 25 years of service. After retiring from Merck, she then worked as a school bus aide for A to Z Transportation.
She loved crafting, camping, puzzles, traveling and playing on her tablet. She will be remembered as someone who loved life and never met a stranger. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her, especially her four-legged companion Bella Marie.
Atkins is survived by her loving husband of 42 years, Bruce E. Atkins; two daughters, Connie West and her husband, Ron, of Salisbury, Md., and Cassie Atkins and her companion, Rachel, of Georgetown, Del.; four grandchildren, Justin Hohberger, Emma Willing, Skyler West and Peyton; a great-granddaughter, Jordyn Hohberger; a very loving sister-in-law, Esther Rogers of Millsboro; and a host of extended family members and friends.
A funeral service was to be held June 5, 2018, at Melson Funeral Services, with interment at Carey’s Cemetery, both in Frankford, Del.
