Debra “Debbie” (Mulrooney) Vickers, 63, of Dagsboro, Del., passed away peacefully, at home, on Thursday, May 24, 2018. She was born Aug. 23, 1954, in Wilmington, Del., daughter of Jeanne (Orga) Mulrooney and Martin J. Mulrooney III.
Vickers was a graduate of the St. Francis Hospital School of Nursing. As a nurse, she worked in the St. Francis Infectious Disease Unit, Williamsburg Hospital ICU, Beebe Healthcare Emergency Department and, finally, in advanced home healthcare in the pharmaceutical field.
Vickers was an accomplished scuba diver and was a dive instructor for several years. She was absolutely in love with the Caribbean, and she spent many months in the Florida Keys and at her home in the Dominican Republic. Vickers taught her son to be a scuba diver and to love all things related to the ocean. Her role of mother to her son, Jake, was her greatest joy, and she loved him dearly.
Vickers was preceded in death by her mothers, Jeanne (Orga) Mulrooney and Patsy (Cook) Mulrooney, and a nephew, Christopher P. McClafferty. She is survived by her father, Martin J. Mulrooney III; her son, Jacob R. Vickers; four sisters, Jeanne M. McClafferty and her husband, Paul, Eileen M. Leach and her husband, Philip, Margaret M. Mulrooney and her husband, Mark Hermes, and Nora K. Mulrooney; and a brother, Michael P. Mulrooney and his wife, Sue.
Vickers’ family sent a very special thank-you to the Griswold Home Care aides, Suzette, Goldie, Donequa and Diane, and the Compassionate Care staff, Stephanie, Amanda, Bobbie and Shauna, for the gentle, loving care they provided throughout her illness.
All services were to be private. The family requested no flowers. Condolences may be sent online at www.melsonfuneralservices.com.
