Carol S. Chahine, 70, of West Fenwick Island, Del., passed away suddenly on April 28, 2018. Born to the late Vincent Smedira and Elsie (Brill) Smedira in Brooklyn, N.Y., on Aug. 22, 1947, she was a native of New York City. Her independent spirit, keen intelligence and natural sense of humor only grew throughout her life and continue to inspire those close to her.
Chahine was an accountant for Shoe Biz on Fifth Avenue in Manhattan in New York City before marrying her late husband, Kamal Chahine. After marriage, they moved to Northern Virginia, where they raised two sons, Jameil and Yousef.
Chahine worked for 13 years as an airline reservationist and was an avid traveler. A loving and supportive mother, she wanted her sons to have a wide experience of the world from a young age. Upon leaving the airlines, Chahine worked as a real estate agent before retiring to the West Fenwick area.
Fearless in expressing her (somehow always correct) opinions, Chahine and her powerful voice and uplifting laugh will be remembered by all who knew her.
Chahine was preceded in death by her sister, Diane Smedira. She is survived by her two cherished sons; her loving sisters Linda Coughlin and Laurie Greer, wife of Richard; her brother, Nicholas Smedira; and her beloved nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were to be held on May 2, 2018, at Chestnut Grove Cemetery in Herndon, Va.
